We stayed for a couple of nights in late September. The 5 pitches are very private and well maintained, with water and hook-up to each pitch. It is very quiet and peaceful.
The CL adjoins a working farm and stables, all of which are very well maintained
Good fot visiting Matlock, Matlock Bath, Crich Tram Museum, Bakewell and exploring the beautiful hills of Derbyshire
I felt happy that appropriate COVID precautions were in place.
Highly recommended.
Really good welcome at safe distance. Entry was a little awkward low hanging branches from trees risk damaging motorhome roof. I spoke to owner and on our exit from site several days later I observed the owner had resolved the branch issues - well done! Site and area was excellent for visits to Matlock and beyond in the area. good facilities . great!
This was our third visit to this site and what a great site this is. Extra additions made for this year are water to each pitch and also a picnic bench.Great care has been made by the owners to protect their visitors from covid by the provision of hand sanitiser and disposable gloves made available at the entrance to the site. Congratulations are due to Michael and and his wife for this thoughtful gesture.
This site is also in an area of outstanding natural beauty with lots of beautiful walks and plenty of things to do in this most beautiful area.
Would definitely recommend this site.
The pitches on the site are serviced with water and Tv points. They are all very private with shrubs between. The site is very peaceful and well kept next to a quiet stable yard. (There was a yapping dog barking at times from the stables). There is walking direct from the site into woodland and also a nature reserve and a canal tow path.
Highly recommended thanks for a lovely stay.
Arrived here for 2 nights not knowing what to expect as haven’t used a CL before and only went on the reviews. It was absolutely wonderful and secluded, a tap on each pitch, 16amp ehu, pitch surrounded by bushes and even a free view box to use if your tv signal wasn’t strong enough.
We shall certainly return and will definitely use more CL sites in the future hoping they live up to these standards.
This is a true gem in the landscape of Derbyshire. Set on a quiet farm, this site offers peace and tranquility to the few who are on site at any one time. Although there are only 5 pitches, they are all private and the boundary hedges to each pitch makes for private and cozy camping. Water and electricity is suppled to each pitch and access to a TV point is also available. The waste facilities are neatly shielded by a hedge and are clean. The site is gated to provide extra privacy.
Local amenities are easy to reach and the only hassle we had was a road closure adjacent to the site, which meant taking the long way around every time we wanted to go out for the day - but this is just a temporary issue and not the fault of the site owners.
The site provides easy access to the many tourist destinations that Derbyshire has to offer, not least the wonderful Heights of Abraham.
The only negative, which again isn't the fault of the site, is that mobile phone service coverage is poor or non-existent, as the site is in a valley.
We will certainly be visiting Splash Farm again.
Beautiful well maintained site. A little tight for manoeuvres but no great problems. Each pitch has its own water supply and most pitches secluded and surrounded by hedging giving great privacy. Most pitches also have a picnic bench and a secluded area to sit. There is an abundance of wildlife and beautiful walks, and the Cromford canal only a short distance away. Great for nature lovers and walkers. Cromford 1 mile has a wealth of shops and interesting places to visit and the Boat Inn food is lovely. Thoroughly recommend this CL. Covid procedures excellent and although we didn't meet the owners communication was excellent. We'll certainly be coming back here.
March 2020: I can’t add much to the other reviews other than to say I agree. Why have we not been here before? Just 20 miles from home. I agree motor mover on caravan is very beneficial. Three and EE reception was OK, not stunning, but OK. Terrestrial TV was non existent but there are are sat TV points on each pitch if that’s what you want. We were quite happy for no TV over our 4 night stay, FM radio reception is OK though.
Being at the end of a VERY wet winter there are a few potholes on the drive to the site and the local walks were very muddy, but I’m sure we are going to get a scorching hot summer.....
We arrived and sorted ourselves out, all facilities are well labelled, Michael came to see us on day 2 to say hello and check we were OK. They live in the huge house down below the site, not the cottage by the barn. Though finding a door of that to say hello was 🤔
Anyway, loved it here. If it was abroad, it would be classed as idyllic, just near home is such a benefit, the Derbyshire Derwent valley is special place.
A marvellous spot beside our favourite wood in Derbyshire. It is a well-signed site round the back of farm buildings up by the side of Smedley's jumper factory in Lea. A nice touch was a welcome notice on the gate directing us to a vacant pitch, and owner very helpful. High level of privacy with shrubs and hedges on the site. Great to be woken up by owls. As previous reviewer stated, the short incline to get to the tap was a challenge in our motorhome after ridiculous amounts of local rain but a few more metres of hose is a small price to pay for a re-visit. Cracking site. Local attractions included Leawood Pump House on the canal which was fired up for half-term, horse-drawn canal boat trips and a themed weekend at Cromford Mills.
