Beautiful site

Beautiful site set amongst mature trees and next to a babbling river. Very helpful and friendly manager. Not good weather when we went in early July this year, but there are some lovely walks from the site (need walking shoes or boots though). From Glenridding we had a lovely day on the Ullswater Steamer and a very scrumptious sandwich and cider at Granny Dowbekin's Tea Room at Pooley Bridge. The White Lion at Patterdale does a massive portion of tasty fish and chips, but beware it gets very busy and you could find yourself very cosy with other hungry visitors. Would definitely use this site again if we are in the area.

Lovely site in beautiful surroundings.

This is a gem of a site, set among the trees and alongside a river. All the facilities you would need. Patterdale is a lovely village, just ten minutes walk  away and Ullswater is just up the road. The lack of phone signal is common throughout the Lake District due to the topography. You just  to accept it. And who needs TV when you are surrounded by stunning scenery. We'll be back to this one.

Great base for walking

Loved it. Nice simple CL, very quiet in spite of being near to the main road - there's more noise from the stream but that's a good sort of noise. It’s essential to read the directions for the site as there’s no CL sign until you reach the gate. Don’t rely on satnav. Glenridding Pier for the Ullswater steamer is about 20min walk away. We spent three days here and will certainly be back sometime. Great base for walking. Lack of mobile phone coverage, tv and even FM radio didn't bother us at all. Wifi is available in some Glenridding pubs and cafes.

It's A Ten From Jen

Although we have been going to the Lakes for many years, this was our first visit to the CL and it certainly won't be our last. I can only describe what we found but it is in total contrast to the previous review!! Five newly laid hard standing pitches (old ones washed away by Storm Desmond). Pitch 5 (first on right through gate) is the smallest and may be a bit tricky to access if you have a large outfit. CL set in the grounds of the estate bordered on one side by Grisedale Beck - if you don't like the sound of running water then this may not be for you. Perfect TV signal (not that we needed it) - used an old fashioned aerial and pointed it in the direction of the mast (Glenridding)  but don't bother with a satellite dish as too many trees. No EE phone signal but three bars in Glenridding and full signal on top of the fells!! Free Wi-Fi over at the estate office and extremely cheap but excellent laundry facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of walking straight from the site - hardly used the car. Basic shopping/pubs and post office at Patterdale and/or Glenridding - larger supermarkets at Penrith. Road was busy during the first week of our stay but this was due to the ongoing repairs being done to the A591 between Kewick and Ambleside after Storm Desmond washed it away. Once this re-opened during the second week of our holiday, peace was restored. Thanks for a great holiday.

Nice place but noise

The site is next to a road so some traffic and then the large stream nice but that offers some noise. The major issue was no phone signal and we only got BBC1 and that was poor signal and upon rain it was not available. Its nice but phone n tv put us off

Perfect

Stayed in June. What a gem! Hidden in the forest with a babbling river on one side.good access and the pitches are a good size with water, waste etc to hand. 10 minute stroll to Glenridding or Patterdale and some small shops and places to eat/drink. Beautiful views over the lake. All with the seclusion and quiet offered by a CL

Great Location

Stayed in late June 2015 all communications with the site are friendly and informative. Easy yet private access in spacious hard standing. Short walks to Glenridding and Patterdale with access to the Estate grounds included. As a bonus there is a private beach area that goes onto the end of Ullswater, beautiful! Jon and his team were more than helpful and deserve every success for their efforts. Many Thanks

Wonderful oasis

What a cracking little site! We thought we may get some road noise as it is so close to the main route through the valley but there was nothing. Perfect location for walkers with numerous routes straight from the site. Free internet is available across the road, cheap laundry facilities too. Walking distance to both glenridding and patterdale. Good sized hard standing pitches with plenty of room for our very large awning and our car as well as our 7m motorhome! (We were supporting our boys doing the coast to coast and there were 7 in our party!) Didn't feel cramped at all and there was a picnic bench on each pitch

Nice

Overall nice site good facilities. Do feel this should be advertised as an adult only site, as it's all on hardcore and there is a very fast river that runs along the site with no fencing. Also found the pitches where far too close to each other, felt very cramped.  Jon the manager however was very nice and welcoming. Would return without the kids..

Excellent welcome and very helpful.

Having a van which is 8.7mtrs in length we found the access easy and pitching straightforward. Best to fill fresh water tank and empty grey before pitching. Although there is only Vodafone reception, if you take laptops, phones etc to the office area you can log on to site wi fi. Good facilities at laundry room. Walking direct from site is superb, no need to drive anywhere. Even though the site is under trees there are sunny spots, we spent most of our time in the hills. Site owner Jon is more than helpful, would certainly visit again.
