Lovely Patterdale

We stayed at this site for 4 nights at the end of July/Beginning of August. We were both expecting to have access to the Lake directly from the CL, however please be aware that you do need to cross a road and walk through the Estate's Lodge site for this, and although initially disappointed with this it did not have any impact of the enjoyment of our holiday. We pitched next to the beck on a good sixed and reasonably level hard standing. There is a TV point and free wifi also, the wifi being very handy in this area where phone signal is hit and miss. There was some confusion with the launderette with the CAMC information stating that it is free for CL users, but with signage on site asking for a donation if you are using it from the CL, this is a minor thing but could do with clearing up (there was separate signage asking lodge users to donate if they were doing more than one wash per week). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back next year.

Superb

Absolutely the best CL site we have stayed at, beautiful site with plenty of room for each van, excellent walks in the area and the scenery is stunning. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming, there is free Wi-Fi, and a laundrette what more could you ask for......Superb.

Relaxing in Patterdale

Lovely welcome, helpful and informative. Very convenient for local shops, pubs and restaurants and would definitely recommend the Helvellyn Kitchen in Glenridding, and with direct access to Helvellyn itself. Great walks direct from the site, local buses you certainly do not need your car once you've arrived

Very nice site

We were here a few years ago, under the previous owners, and our main concern then was that the pitches were too small. Since the new owners have taken over the pitches have been widened, and TV and WiFi are now available, handy as it means you don't need to walk into Glenridding to get the mountain forecast. The big draw of this site is its location. We walked Helvellyn one day, and Place Fell another, all without needing to touch the car keys. Glenridding and Patterdale have a couple of convenience stores, but it's a good idea to stock up before you arrive as nearest supermarkets are around d 30 mins drive away

Disapointed

Very poorly signed. On the good side its a nice wooded site near a road, good walks to pub etc. On the downside, apart from electric there is nothing else which of course its a strong point but not when your paying £20 / night for the privilege.

Response from the Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review. The CL owner has been in touch as he wants to address the concerns you raised. Please be assured they have as many signs as they are allowed in the area and have actually been in trouble with highways for having further signage in the past. Please be assured they do their utmost with signs to the site and directions to help members easily find the site.

Please note as well as electricity, the site price also includes 70mbs dual line WiFi on all pitches, coaxial tv points on all pitches plus the usual water and recycling facilities.

In My Top Ten

If you love walking and outdoor pursuits, then this site is a must. Fell walking galore without having to take out the car. I've already reviewed this site several times and nothing much has changed except the price. However, although at the top end for a CL, for me it's all about location, location, location. Thanks again for another great stay.

Peaceful Patterdale

Great site, great location. Stayed 3 nights, first visit, met by helpful staff. It was after looking around this site while camping elsewhere we decided to join the CMC. Very quiet whilst there, only van on site. Caught steamer to Howtown and walked the lakeside path back one day, the next caught bus to Aira Force, walked back to Glenridding on the Ullswater Way. From there up to Keldas, a small but lovely summit with views over Ullswater. This is part of the estate and campers can access all of the estate. Returning past Lanty’s Tarn down to Grisedale and through the estates Waterfall Wood to the site. Water tap was frozen on arriving, but had been informed on booking so went prepared. Really enjoyable stay, but I’m probably bias, this is my favourite corner of Lakeland.

Still One Of Our Favourites

We have stayed at this site now on numerous occasions over the years and despite a couple of drawbacks, it is still and will continue to be one of our favourite sites. Easy access from the main road to level, hard standing pitches. I do agree that if the site is busy, then manoeuvring can be a bit tricky and a motor mover would definitely be a bonus. TV signal is intermittent, probably due to the trees and does vary from pitch to pitch - however, this is not an issue for us. The newly installed WiFi is brilliant and means that mobile phone users can use it to get a signal to make calls. Plenty of walking straight out from the site either onto the fells or along the Ullswater Way - about an hour to Aira Force and the NT Tea Rooms. Post Office at Patterdale and a couple of convenience shops at Glenridding - bigger shops at Penrith and Keswick. Bus stop right outside the site for stops to Penrith in one direction and Windermere in the other. If you don't like the sound of running water, then maybe this site isn't for you - it is bordered by Grisedale Beck which can be quite noisy after significant rainfall. All in all, we love it and we will be back. Thanks Jon and team for a great stay.

site with personality

we have just spent two weeks at this site and feel I need to reply to some of the cons of a previous reviewer . we had no problem with the T V reception although did not get the full range of freeview channels, but enough. However Jon is aiming to add T V cables to each pitch by next year. A wifi booster was installed during our stay so no problem with that either. There is some traffic noise but not to the point of distraction or nuisance for that matter, just the odd motorbike with no exhaust. The site is wooded and has a beck running through it. There is a fantastic private walk along side this leading to the fells and spoilt for choice walks and fell runs. Jon and his team are very obliging and helpful. There are a couple of local shops although you will need to travel to Penrith to do a proper shop. I did see deliver vans in the area so online shopping could be an option. beautiful site and area, will definitely return.

Nice site with pro's and cons

We have just returned from 5 days here.... site is easy to find and road access very good. We did not follow the recommended route (as didn't fancy Kirkstone pass towing) but continued up the motorway to junction 40 and drove down side of Ullswater. We had previously been told to pitch up in volunteer area on arrival which we did - 5 other vans already on site. Site well maintained with nice hard standings and good recycling facilities. Step up to water tap meant husband needed to do water duties as I couldn't lift full container down step! There is a huge playing field opposite site with tennis court which the kids utilised to burn off steam as limited room on site. As previous reviews state - site is on a busy main road which could be quite noisy and rushing river rambling through site too - made us bit anxious in heavy rain watching water levels rising! Huge trees do make reversing difficult and we also needed to motor mover to get into pitch. There is an access gate from site across road into Patterdale estate grounds - free wifi if u sit on bench outside estate office (covered bench around corner if raining). This was our only means of communicating with people and finding out weather etc. No mobile reception, TV or radio which made us pleased we'd taken books and DVDs to watch. Estate staff were friendly and helpful. Good info in estate office and books to borrow etc. Laundry facilities you can use - although took me 3 or 4 attempts before found it empty as only one machine /dryer for a lot of chalets / campers to use. Nice walks around estate. Pretty waterfall woods we enjoyed by site as well as walks up the valley. Ulswater is short walk away from site. Overall it was a pleasant stay but we wouldn't come back. The road noise and lack of TV, mobile or radio meant we felt very cut off which made it harder for us to 'plan' what we wanted to do easily. We ended up leaving a day early and moved onto the next leg of our holiday to get back to civilisation and better weather!
