Good and bad points

We cannot fault the welcome on this site. the owners were extremely nice. Proximity of the site to Durham and Beamish is excellent, with Durham Park & Ride about 3 miles away. Most disconcerting was the siting of the drinking water tap. I watched one of the ponies in the paddock rubbing against the post holding the water tap and pipe for quite a while, which did leave me wondering about possible contamination. Also, as the water is at the lower end of the site it means you are pulling water uphill if you are pitched at the top. This is OK if you are fit. Six vans on site a couple of times while we were there. The road outside the site was noisy at certain times of the day but otherwise it was very quiet indeed. Also the power went off a couple of times as it seems they have a fault at the house somewhere.

A lovely week

The warmest of welcomes awaits you.A lovely couple who are so helpful and kind Although this is 1/2 an acre ,the EHU are well set out , not all together in a row so there is plenty of room. Sloping with great views. We found plenty of places of interest to visit in the area.Fresh eggs were delicious. Thank you

Warm welcome at Old Bridge End

This CL is ideal as a base to visit Durham and explore the surrounding area. We had a warm welcome with information about the area and 6 lovely eggs! It is a sloping site but with good views and plenty of space.

GREAT SITE AND A VERY WARM WELCOME

Wow! A warm welcome is the least I can say about this CL. It is very clean and well organised. The whole family were extremely friendly as were their pets. The Town of Durham is not far away as is Beamish and The Tanfield Railway. We found lots of good eateries i.e. the Cross Keys just across the valley. The family regard nothing as too much trouble when people need help. We thank the family so much for their marvellous hospitality.

weather against us...

...but it didn't stop our enjoyment one bit, so nice of the owners to phone us at our prior stop to warn us it was 'a bit wet' and would we mind going on the hardstanding, not at all, what a pleasant surprise to find not only had they installed one but it had ehu too ! Indeed if we hadn't been on there I seriously doubt we would have got off when we eventually left, it was a godsend. great for access to Beamish and loads of other attractions (and eggs too :D )

A lovely friendly CL

We have just spent a lovely week on this CL. Tony and Christine who own the site are lovely friendly people, who will go out of their way to help you. Fresh eggs from Tony's chickens were given to us on arrival and we had them for breakfast the following day, they were lovely. The surrounding scenery and view from site is fantastic, and there are too many places to visit in the area within the space of a week. We have been caravanning for 45 years now, and have visited all manner of sites in that time. This is one site we will definitely be returning to.

A Great CL

I loved my stay here. The scenery, the warm welcome (delicious free-range eggs and a custard tart!). Very handy for Durham's Park & Ride, Beamish Museum etc. What an immaculate site. There is electricity hook-up possible but who needs it!?

Read my lips...

Read my lips... YOU DON'T NEED ELECTRIC HOOK-UP! We spent a week on this lovely site, watched an hour or so of tele most nights, ran the pump, lights and motor mover - and still had half power left in the battery. Granted the battery is less than a year old, but even so... Great views, and three off-road cycling tracks nearby on disused railway lines. Superb! Durham Park & Ride down the road. We climbed to the top of the cathedral tower (389 steps). They were ringing the bells, and we felt the tower moving... Definitely be going back - and the freshly laid eggs were superb!

A Real Gem !!

We have just stayed on this site for the past few nights and we have had a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. The owners are extremely helpful in every way and will really go out of their way to assist in any way. On arrival we was greeted by Tony with a couple of fresh eggs from the local Chickens that they keep, and the day after we were chatting in the kitchen getting some of the local knowledge of Restaurants and drives around some of the local villages. Some of the views locally are breath taking and I would highly recommend it. All in all a cracking CL site that is undoubtedly a credit to the Caravan Club. Considering that we have only stayed on 1 CL site in the past 9 years I think that we will be stopping over here a few more times in the future. I would highly recommend this site. Thank you Mr + Mrs Gallimore :-)

All a CL should be.

My family and I stayed here for two nights whilst in the area for The Great North Run weekend. It was the perfect base for us with easy access to the A1. A quiet site with a nice outlook and walks within easy reach. The owners were very friendly and we were even treated to a welcome gift of fresh eggs for our breakfast. If you enjoy a little bit of quiet and the simple pleasures of a CC location then give Old Bridge End a try for yourself.
