CL sites are so varied and interesting, this one is just the type we like, friendly owners, a lovely area, a great rural place to stay with an easy going approach to there visitors and plenty of attractions in the area.
We hope to return again soon.
Booking was very easy. This was our first visit to Old Bridge End CL. We arrived shortly after dark and the owners came out to assist us onto the site - very helpful. A box of fresh eggs from their chickens was very welcome. The site is as described with good TV reception, and easy to find. Water and electricity near at hand. We were lucky with good weather - always an asset when caravanning.
We would definitely stay there again if visiting the surrounding area.
Although we have been motorhoming for eight years, we are new members to the Club as we spend most of our time abroad. Having been to the Durham Centre Rally in Sunderland for the Tall Ships, this was our first stay on a CL. All I can say is that if this is a typical CL we are in for a great time in the months to come. The welcome was friendly and eggs for breakfast and, despite a bit of a slope, it was easy to level up on the hardstanding down near the fence. A tranquil setting with a fabulous view and easy access to the excellent Durham Park and Ride. Why can't more cities provide sensible motorhome parking at their P&R? We also had a great day at the Beamish Museum and certainly would have stayed longer but for prior commitments.
This CL has all the facilities you could need for a great stay and we thoroughly recommend it.
Having stayed at 2 very poor CL's beforehand, Old Bridge End was a huge relief. Quite a lot of slope in places, but ok if you are careful and there were some concret blocks on site to help level the caravan.
Nice and quiet and the owners were very friendly and helpful and even gave us a few fresh laid eggs for breakfast!
Recommended.
We stayed here with our granddaughter for 7 nights from 31st July.
As stated in other reviews this site is easy to get to and has a nice wide access to the field
We had to park up by the hedge as the bottom three pitches were taken. This meant a bit of moving around to find a reasonable area to set up. We required a levelling pad on one side and blocks under the jockey wheel and corner steadies. A motor mover would have saved me a lot of pain here.
One tap for fresh water at bottom of field. Decent toilet disposal point. Grey water can be disposed of in the hedge as you wouldn't be able to lift the hog to the disposal point.
However once set up we were fine and had lovely views over the fields towards the hills.
Owners very friendly and we were welcomed with a box of eggs courtesy of the farm hens.
Loads of places to visit especially Beamish where you get 25% off with CAMC membership card.
We also used the park and ride into Durham. Only 2 miles from site.
A great location to stay for seeing the wonderful sites of Tyne and Wear.
We are leaving today after a week on site. Access to the site is very easy, the local road being of good width and surface. The entrance gateway is clearly marked and is a very wide gateway too. The site has hardstandings for three or four 'vans, all have electric hook-ups. The site is clean and tidy, with a dedicated enclosure for rubbish and we disposal. And a very good disposal point it is. Water pressure from the single fresh water tap is good.
On arrival we were given a very warm welcome and presented with fresh eggs for breakfast.
I have no hesitation recommending this site, but you do need to be aware that the site does have something of a slope, and you may need a levelling ramp and some packing pieces for the leg steadies.
During our time here we visited Beamish (2 days), Durham Cathedral, Housteds and Vindolanda, the Darlington Rail Museum and Raby Castle. Not forgetting a day at the seaside at The lighthouse and Seahouses.
We enjoyed our stay here and will certainly come again. Our thanks to Mr & Mrs Gallimore for a very splendid stay.
Excellent CL with fantastic views, ease access and many interesting places to visit. Sloping pitches but no problem to get sited. Stayed for 10 days from 12th May 2017.
Very warm welcome,we were even given some fresh eggs to have with our next breakfast,a lovely touch.
Very sloping but it didn't bother us,blocks and bricks were handy to make leveling a lot easier.
Wow! the views were amazing, you could sit and watch the wildlife or the owners horses in the next field.Lovely and quiet apart from the odd car passing the site.
We used the Park and Ride to get into Durham, this being a short drive from the campsite.
We had a great time in the area and would come back to this site again.
We stayed here for 5 nights.
The sloping did not put us off even thought the caravan looked a bit wonky! Plenty of blocks available for levelling.
We were also greeted by the owners who gave us some eggs for breakfast. We found them friendly but unobtrusive.
Site is well placed for seeing sights of County Durham and we were out every day seeing different places.
The road is fairly quiet although some cars do go at quite a lick, which our little dog found a bit intimidating, and it is hard to walk a dog without using at least a part of the road.
We would definitely go back.
Just spent 10 nights at this CL and what an enjoyable time we had, We arrived and Mrs Gallimore met us, showed us to the site and as it was empty said we could pitch where we wanted, gave us a information leaflet and the usual 6 eggs(very tasty ) and informed us regarding fresh water, grey water etc and said if we needed anything just knock on the farmhouse door. day after Mr Gallimore came across and asked if all OK . The views from the site are excellent and all is as everyone has already said, great site and will return.
