Lovely site -

I cannot agree less with the poor review recently posted about Kings Orchard Marina. This CL site is excellent. Ideally situated for the National Memorial Arboretum, an excellent pub within walking distance along the tow path. Facilities kept extremely clean. Dogs extremely well catered for with a little garden area for them to use. EHU and serviced pitch made it even better. Very quiet apart from the chugging of the narrow boats passing by. As a female towing a caravan I had no problem accessing the site - the only issue was that the direct route was closed and we couldn’t contact anyone to find the diversion - so we rang the pub instead! I’ve taken the ‘van down much narrower routes than this! Only gripe was that we had to pay upfront - which is not usual with CAMC sites.

Never again!

Stopped here for one night on the way up to York. There is a lot of HS2 works in the region and because of that the lane as directed is closed and you are diverted via Huddleford lane. This lane is very tight with very few passing places and you have to naivigate a narrow bridge halfway along. It was hard work with a 7.2 mtr caravan, a motorhome bigger than that will likely struggle even more. You will almost certainly meet traffic from the surrounding houses and the Plough pub! The CL is nothing more than a patch of uneven grass tucked away to one side, no views of anything other than your fellow campers. Only good thing to say about it was that there is a water tap on each pitch. But not £29.50 a night good. The Elsan point in a little way away and because of the course stones on the driveways it means you have to carry it for the last part for a short distance. This might be a problem for some. At the Elsan point the emptying is quite high so some might also find that a problem. After the arrival and not looking forward to the departure I tried to cancel my return visit which was in 5 days time but told no refund as it was less than 21 days! Took that on the chin and booked somewhere else

Disappointing site

When I phoned to make the booking the person I spoke to referred me to the website where I had to pay in full when I made the booking although it states that payment can be made on arrival. The marina is down a road with lots of potholes and narrow with passing places. There is a commercial site and the CL which, although next to the canal has no view of the canal because of trees and hedgerows and no view of the marina. The site was well laid out but very uneven with deep ruts which had been filled in with stones and the grass was long and rough. We had to pay a £25 refundable deposit for the key to the toilet block and the gate to the towpath. The toilet emptying point was quite high up and, as my husband has arthritis it took both of us to lift the toilet to empty it. The cost per night was £28.50 which was definitely too much when considering there were no views and the site was not well kept.

Lovely CL Site

We stayed in June 2023 on the separate CL pitches. Good sized pitches in a horseshoe each with a tap and electricity pole. Plenty of bbqs and benches around for you to use if you haven’t brought your own. Toilet block was clean and tidy no matter what time of the day we used them and plenty of space for dish washing etc. We were on site for the Champion’s League final with a Manchester City Mad teenager who couldn’t possibly miss the match. We streamed it on the site WIFI with no issues. Just beyond the toilet block is a gate giving access to the canal towpath and a short 10min walk takes you to The Plough pub which serves excellent food and had a great atmosphere. We would be happy to go back!

weeks stay in August

Our second visit to the CL site after 2 years, great place. Very convenient location, friendly and helpful staff with access to the marina facilities (spotless showers, thank you!) We hired the day boat for a first time outing on the canal, great fun and highly recommended. We also visited Tamworth Snowdome twice, nice and quiet at this time of year; Bletchley Park, which is about an hour and a half away and a walk along the canal to Fradley Junction. One tip, HS2 work was going on just out of sight on the other side of the canal between 0800-1600 during our stay. It is very loud and the only reason I had to mark down Peace and Tranquility. Not a huge problem for us as we were out most days but it may be worth checking with the Marina before your visit if you expect it to be a problem. Overall, great CL, we'll be back.

One to return to for us!

Well we have just spent the most amazing weekend here! The weather just made it for us, as we were there during the UK's hottest day on record. We found the site and the staff to be lovely. Nice, well kept CL surrounded by trees. The pitches in the private area reminded us somewhat of a French campsite; hedged and a little rustic, which we absolutely loved. Toilets and showers always clean and lots of bbqs dotted around the site. Some lovely walks around the area, including pretty canal towpath walks and great pub serving fab ales and food. Definitely a keeper for us!

Our favourite so far

Did a 1 night stay without the kids as an extremely rare treat! We opted to stay on the CL part of the site, a small field at the top of the site. It was so quiet up there, surrounded by trees. 5 pitches in a horseshoe on grass. We had the first pitch and could see the boats from the bedroom window. There were full facilities, showers, toilets, washing up area, elsan point. Key for the towpath and a 10 minute walk brings you to a popular country pub. We sat in the sunshine in the beer garden and watched boats cruise down the canal, had lovely pizza, then strolled back for an extremely well rested night. We will definitely be back.

Lovely site and area, but a few issues..

We arrived on the Thursday of the Jubilee weekend, with a booking that we had made in early March. On arrival, we were told quite sternly that we were not booked and that they had NO space for us, despite me producing an email confirmation of our booking… eventually, the staff ‘found’ a pitch for us as long as we didn’t mind sharing an electric post. We sited the van on the hard standing and immediately found lots of glass on the pitch. There were also large ruts from a vehicle on the grass area (which had not been mowed for a good couple of weeks) for the awning, making this area very bumpy. I reported this to staff who immediately came and cleared the glass. They were very good and apologised very much for the problems we had had. They charged us two nights for a three night stay by way of compensation, which we felt was more than generous. The site itself is beautiful, right by the marina and is well laid out. Facilities are good and are cleaned regularly. The shop mainly sells boaty stuff, but you can get a few ice creams from there. We’ll be back, but it won’t be at the top of our list. We ended up on the commercial part of the site, not the CL, which we were glad about as the CL is cramped and not in such a nice location. Overall; 4/5, but only because of the issues we had on arrival and the small matter of a pitch with a lawn not cut literally for weeks, which at £23.50 a night is unforgivable.

In need of some tlc

Where can I start. On a positive note the staff were lovely and very helpful. The site itself, which consists of a 5 van all grass cl and a larger hard standing site is approached by a long straight tarmac road, littered with pot holes. Entrance is via an automatic gate, which is accessed via a keypad after 5pm. We had booked the cl, it's description made it sound idyllic. It's a tiny field located in the far corner of the marina itself, and was surrounded by over hanging trees, unkempt hedges and the grass looked like it hadn't been cut for weeks. There wasn't any view of the marina, in fact, no views at all. The canal on one side bordered by a hedge, the marina uneen behind the raised landscaping. Flies and midges were everywhere so before un hitching we went to the office and asked to be moved to the main site. We spent a week on a badly maintained pitch. The grass here was long and again hadn't been cut for weeks. Problems with the gardening contract and a flat tyre on their ride on mower were cited. The industrial sized waste bins and the toilet block were our view for the week. The toilet waste disposal point was a bizzare design with the tap and hose situated inside a covered stainless steel cabin, just feet above the disposal point. Not the most hygienic!!! We didnt use the showers or toilet block so cant comment on those. Trackside lighting posts were laid by the side of the roads where they had fallen due to rot. We were plagued by background noise. Peaceful it is not!! The constant hum of the A38, trains going by, and the thud thud thud and screaching of heavy machinary at work on the nearby HS2 construction site didn't help. 7.15am one morning and the emptying of the waste for an hour with the engine of the wagon running. 8.00am another morning heavy farm machinery just over the hedge behind us for hours on end(Yes, we are in the countryside, I know) So all in all a very disappointing experience. Certainly not as described on the website. It could be a lot better if they actually tidied the place up, and did the maintenance the 3 hour turnover time suggests. In fact, it could look stunning, and possibly once did. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

A great stay

We spent a week at Kings Orchard Marina as a base for walking the canals of the area. With direct access onto the towpath and reasonably easy access to bus and train services, this allowed three of the walks to be accomplished without need of the car. Staff are very pleasant and accommodating and the facilities are excellent. We stayed on the CL area which is all grass, but possibly the non-CL area with hardstandings would have been better, although the CL area is closer to the towpath so suited us well. There certainly is background car noise from the A38, but this is tolerable, and we hope for Kings Orchard's sake that the HS2 construction and operation won't affect the site too much in the future.
