Greenloch House A Very Special CL

My husband and I with our Shih Tzus have stayed at Greenloch House twice now once in our motorhome and the second time in our caravan and we loved it in both, we felt compelled to book before leaving last year for 2 weeks again this year. Many other people we spoke to return again and again, multiple times in a year it's that lovely, peaceful and relaxing, we wouldn't change a thing. Large pitches all with views over the Loch. The Guinea Fowl are so amusing and such a treat to have them pottering around. We too had mozzies but that's Scotland, you just deal with them, certainly wouldn't put us off or many other repeat caravaners either. The owner Henry is warm and welcoming, whether its your first or 100th time. Greenloch House is a very special place in Beautiful Scotland.

Beautiful location

Beautiful surroundings on this cl. We parked the caravan nose in to maximise the lovely views of sheep and Loch. The first time I've ever seen paddling sheep! The guinea fowl were comical and we didn't find their noise to be a problem. Lots of great places to visit locally. We particularly enjoyed Glenwhan Gardens which were recommended by a neighbouring caravanner. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - thank you

Disappointing....

This wasn't the idyll we'd envisaged. Yes, it's a beautiful location and a well-laid out site. But we had hoped for peace and quiet. Instead we got shouting teenagers after 10 pm (the owners had gone away for the weekend and left their teenage son in charge). There was machine noise too from somewhere off site that went on constantly all night. There were noisy birds too (guinea fowl?) but we rather liked them. The worst thing was the mosquitoes. We've camped by Scottish lochs before and had no problem but came back to find over 50 of them in our caravan (we counted as we squashed). We'd left the windows closed all day but they must have come in through the vents. After disposing of all the ones we could find, we had to clean the marks off the caravan walls. The following night, there were another dozen or so. I got badly bitten despite applying repellant when we went to bed. Other issue was that although there was a path to the chemical loo disposal point, the long grasses were trailing over it. There'd been a lot of rain so I got wet legs. Not a site we'd return to.

Simply the Best

This site is the best we have stayed on so far, really well organised and welcoming. A board with your name is placed at the edge of your pitch followed immediately with a welcome from Henry. He explained this is your pitch and you can organise it however you like, he told us where to find water etc. Our pitch was big enough for all you could want and more, with great views over ‘Soulseat Loch’. Everything here has been well thought out and the pitches are beautifully landscaped into individual areas, providing a nice degree of privacy. There are Guineafowl that come to visit our pitch a couple of times a day; it’s lovely to watch them and they make us laugh. There are paths laid out to the Loch shore, were there are a couple of benches for you to sit and take in the views, it’s really lovely in an evening watching the swans swimming by and the bats flying around. It’s not far from Stranraer shopping centre where you can find a Morrisons supermarket with petrol station and a small Tesco which also houses the Post Office. We stayed here a month and loved every minute of it, we would definitely recommend and feel sure we will be back. You can read more on our blog https://coltrimcaravanners.home.blog/

A Galloway Gem….Greenloch House

This lovely site delivered everything we expected, from the ease of booking, the nice friendly organised welcome, and one of the prettiest locations we have ever stayed in. On arrival we found a board telling us how to pitch, with our names on a pitch marker, there’s plenty of room to use either hardstanding or grass, and the pitches are beautifully landscaped individual areas, giving a nice degree of privacy, and lots of wildflower/shrub colour. Every pitch has a nice view of some sort, and the whole area is down a short secluded driveway, so there’s little road noise or disturbance. We didn’t need any kind of levelling, and pitches are spacious. There’s a great little walk from the pitches down to the loch side with seating to watch the sunsets and the wildfowl on the loch. Tap is not far from all pitches, adjacent to small recycling/waste area. CDP point is away from all pitches, a hole in the ground with tap flush and cover, perfectly easy to use. There’s no wifi (this is a very rural area) but a decent phone signal, we tethered our devices to phones with no problems. Nearest petrol is around 5 minutes away, back on A75, but Stranraer with all services/shops is a mere 15 minutes drive away. Great location for the Rhins of Galloway area. Castle Kennedy is 5 minutes drive away, Glenwhan Gardens 15 minutes drive away, Logan Botanic Gardens around 30 minutes away, with all the wonderful scenery, coast, villages etc… nearby. A very good walking and cycling location as well. We did Portpatrick and back in an afternoon, all on quiet lanes with little traffic. We didn’t bother heading into Stranraer this time, but it looks interesting, and for those with the time, ferries go across to Belfast and Larne from Cairnryan. This is a CL in a beautiful location, with lots to see and do, lovely helpful and welcoming hosts, ideal for both getting out and about to explore, but lovely enough to just stay close to site and relax and unwind. A place we would definitely recommend and return to again. Dog owners…..dog friendly, small onsite walk for a quick leg stretch, with quiet lanes adjacent for longer walks. There are chickens and Guinea fowl roaming, so be aware and respectful.

One night simply not long enough!

We booked for a one night stopover following the ferry crossing from Belfast. Mistake....... one night simply wasn't long enough for the beautiful site. With a pitch all but on the banks of a pretty Loch and overlooking lovely views in all directions. We felt totally immersed in perfection for the short time we were there. Our stay was made even better by the friendly communication and warm welcome from the owners. We can't recommend this small site highly enough and will definitely be back for more than just a one night stopover!

Pitch Perfect

A warm welcome and quick allocation to a great sized pitch. A very peaceful site away from the hustle bustle of life. Wish I had brought my telescope as the night skies are crystal clear with zero light pollution. Lots of wild birds to be seen and heard with lots of swans on the loch and a few friendly anglers too. Plenty of places to walk and take in the stunning scenery and walkable to Castle Kennedy via a simple route. Good O2 mobile signal, with the ability to stream a sports channel with ease. The crows in the nearby trees know how to party - but it is the countryside! If we travel this way again - we would book here without a doubt

Convenient for ferry at Cairnryan

I agree with all the positive comments left by others. For us the reason for staying here was to be close to the ferry port at Cairnryan - a 15 minute drive - rather than spending the night in a layby; but we found the site delightful. Lots of bird noise - crows and water fowl!

Perfection

Had a 2 night stay at this wonderful site. If you want peace, charm and tranquillity then look no further, it’s here in abundance Lovely area to explore as well, the whole peninsula just has an undiscovered feel about it, the countryside and views are amazing. This is one area and one site you will always look forward to having the opportunity to come back to.

SO peaceful

Just a lovely place to stay. Big pitches with lots of room to orientate the caravan as we wished. Although a bit far to the west in Dumfries and Galloway, still lots to do in the local area. Logan Botanic gardens a particular highlight for us. Plus seafood at Port Patrick. Very much endorse all the other comments - strongly recommended for a holiday not just an overnight before or after the ferry.
