Excellent CL near Fowey

Just stopped at this site for a week and what a great location for Fowey. The site has been opened for about 18 months, which the owners Sarah and David make you feel very welcome whilst you are there. The walks listed on their web site are a must and we did a number of them over the week.

Fowey is a great location and only a 10 minute walk to the start of the town / carpark, probably 20 mins into the centre. You will definitely need a torch in the winter nights. The hardstanding pitches all have water and a tv aerial, even though our dish on the van picked up a good signal. They also have the benefit of wifi, even though I could only pick up from the awning and was hit and miss at times, but I was on holiday and only used to look for things to do / reviews.

I think this is a great site and will use again, if I was been critical, the pitch we were on had full view of the chemical toilet and might of been best screening and the pitch we had, had a bit of concrete slab and manhole, which if sitting out, meant you were sat on. This was me being picky remember and I parked my car in a way that screened it.

If I gave any advice to people visiting, make sure you swing wide into the site, watching the left hand side as you pull in and ensure you have some good steel pegs for hard standing. Great site and would recommend

Fowey CL

Just spent 3 weeks at this lovely CL. We arrived to find a name plate next to our pitch which was flat level & a good size. Access is a little tight but no real problem & you get plenty of notice you are approaching the entrance. Each pitch has access to fresh water electricity & a satellite TV connection, a decoder box is offered if required. David & Sarah introduced themselves within hours of arrival. We found them to be very accommodating allowing me to park my 2nd car & boat on their drive just up the lane. Sarah even phoned me the evening prior to our arrival to advise me the pitch would be available from 7am.  The site is a 10 minute walk from Fowey and although there is no footpath we didn't Find it a problem with our 2 children & dog.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site to anybody wanting to visit Cornwall. Thank you David & Sarah for providing a lovely site for our holiday.

A Great CL

A great CL with a lovely friendly family running it. Sarah came and knocked on the door on our 1st evening and introduced herself and we met David the following day. All pitches hardstanding, great wifi and although we were told TV reception might not be good, it was fine. Follow the instructions given and it is an easy journey. Would definitely use again if we are in the area.

Excellent new site

We stopped at the site for two night and had an easy arrival , lots of space to pitch on good hardstanding and water and EHU on pitch. A pretty site , with good tv signal and wifi most of the time . Nice walks in area and not far to get to Fowey , which is nice even in the evening for a stroll and relaxed drink or meal. Our only negative would be that the walks are all via a busy narrow road with no footpath . We avoid rush hour to help the situation and it isn't very far but adds a bit of stress to your walks particularly with with two dogs along!

Peace and quiet

Such a lovely CL site. Sarah and David were so welcoming and extremely helpful. Good spacious pitches and the site is so well cared for. We would not hesitate in recommending this site. Please follow the instructions on their website with regards to directions as some roads are narrow so they have given precise directions. Would definitely go back when next in the area.

Great facilities

We stayed over Christmas/New Year 2015/16. The site was easy to find and impressive in that a huge amount of ground levelling etc had been done to make the hardstandings excellent. The welcome was very good and the satellite TV feed to each site was a major benefit for us as it rained every day except Christmas Day. We used our Freesat box but a Sky box would work as well. Access to Fowey was 'interesting' as we took the car through and hit a 20 minute traffic jam caused when the town minibus (a Transit) couldn't get past pedestrians on the main street. We had to wait until the shoppers found somewhere to get off the road itself. It really is that narrow!. Our Xmas lunch was excellent in the St Austell brewery pub in Charlestown. The site is surrounded by tall trees so very sheltered from winds. The owners have put a huge amount of effort into creating a good site and were 'on call' almost all of the time. We have a 575 long van and found no problems in access BUT the way to the site has to be by the instructions given - trying to get there through the town itself would be a nightmare as the very narrow streets also twist and turn.

Official Response:

"Thanks for your second review!  For the benefit of future guests; there is no need, whatsoever, to drive through Fowey to reach Fowey CL.  The CL is located on the outskirts of town where the roads are sufficiently wide to provide two way traffic.  Fowey itself is a charming warren of narrow, one way roads and ancient buildings which attract many thousands of visitors every year.  While you can drive through the town we would recommend walking from the CL (0.9 mile) or using the car parks on the edge of town."

Excellent place to stay

Stayed over the bank holiday. An excellent site with all hardstandings with plenty of space between pitches. Good facilities with own tap on pitch, less than a mile from Fowey and an easy walk in and out along road. Found a great tapas bar pintxo so impressed visited twice. To reception poor but owners have satellite connection and really fast broadband. Peaceful setting and already booked to come back.

Lovely CL in fabulous location

Spent a few days here in April. Second time we tried to get in here - full last September. Easy access to site for motorhomes/caravans. Owners very friendly and welcoming. All hardstanding, level pitches, free wifi, satellite TV provided if required, lovely clean recycling area. Site very quiet in woodland setting with a 10 min walk to the outskirts of Fowey down a lane. One of the best CLs we have visited and we will definitely be back (if we can get in!). Toilet/shower facilities would be a great addition but not sure if they are viable here.

What an oasis

Quite, restful, well maintained. Lovely owners. Super location. We have just spent a February break arriving after prolonged rain upon our arrival the gravelled pitches were brilliant and puddle free. Perfect for wet weather. Although the trees are bare this time of year, it's a beautiful site and must be glorious in the summer. Strongly recommend, we will be back!

A Wet Christmas

We stayed for 10 days over Christmas 2015. The site has pretty good access and is now all hardstanding. The hardstanding material is quite coarse and it wasn't easy to get even a gravel peg to grip when putting up the awning. There are water points close to each site, alhough they are at the top of a slope - easy to roll a full container down but a bit slippery to go up in the wet we had. Fowey is a lovely little town but in common with much of Cornwall is expensive to park in. Iy also has VERY few space in the town and the car park is way up above the main street. There is a town minibus shuttle to take the strain on the way back though. David was very helpful indeed throughout the visit. A tip for others staying over Christmas - an excellent Christmas Dinner was available at the Rashleigh Arms Hotel in the lovely Charlestown some 20 minutes away. Expensive but worth it and the meal and service was excellent. Does need advance booking though. We will be back in the warmer months!
