Our favourite site

Having read the last review 'disappointed' we felt that we had to respond. We have been to cholsey grange on two previous occasions and will be returning again for a third time this October half term. Access to this site even before the newly installed road is not difficult and is far easier that many other cl sites that we have visited previously. The beauty of cl sites for us and the majority of caravanners that we speak to is their uniqueness including things like the location of water points and waste disposal. We do not visit main caravan club sites as they are very busy and regimented and really encapsulate everything we dislike about a caravan site. Jackie and Ted are extremely helpful and on our previous visit, Ted was kind enough to help us on and off the site with his vehicle following a period of heavy rain when our car was not up to the job. We have never experienced a problem with the dogs and have enjoyed their presence on the site. Surely anyone looking to stay at a farm based cl site would expect dogs to be roaming free. As for the comment on dogs weeing on the awning, this is petty in the extreme. Paying £6 extra on electric per night is not excessive and suggests that you had the electricity on constantly. During our last visit in October, despite it being quite chilly we only went over our allowance by around £5 over a 5 day period. Perhaps you should pack an extra jumper next time. Looking forward to chasing my aqua roll down the hill in October! Thanks Jackie & Ted for providing such a wonderful site. Jamie & Emma

Great walking

We have just returned from three nights at Cholsey Grange and will be returning as soon as possible. Very accessible, ten minutes from J5 of the M40, yet it is so peaceful and tranquil. The views are fantastic and there are great walks from the site. Ted was helpful giving local advice and made us feel exceptionally welcome. The local pub, The Fox, is only ten minutes walk away, (most of which is up the farm lane) is dog friendly and serves well kept ale. The walking in this area is varied I would recommend taking an OS map because it is easy to plan a walk to suit all.

Wow!

After a week at this amazing CL with stunning views, peace and tranquility thrown in for good measure and loads to do and see in the area I can honestly say we had a restful and amazing stay here. The CL owner offers a warm and informative welcome and works extremely hard to ensure you are looked after and well catered. I work at Heathrow so will be using this site more often but hopefully more for holidays. Turville Village, the setting for the series Vicar of Dibley is down the road and the village pub offers great food and service too. Fully recommend this CL, we loved our stay, hope you do too, in fact I'm sure you will!!

Don't forget your binoculars!

Never thought hubby and I would be into bird watching but here you can't help but be enthralled by the gracious and majestic sight of the red kites flying across the valley and over the camp site. Wonderful views and very friendly and helpful owners. We were going to go on a walk recommended by Ted but unfortunately it poured with rain that day. We were rewarded though by 3 deer who appeared in the valley below. We went to the local pub/hotel (Fox) but didn't eat there as it was a bit too expensive and bistro-like for us. Ideal site for caravanners with a car to explore, but no bus route nearby so unless as a motorhomer you like walking, you will have to take it out to reach local attractions. This is why I didn't award full marks for overall rating.

Brilliant LocalPlacesOfInterest

What we really loved about Cholsey Grange was the variety of things to do. If you want hill walks, you are in the Chilterns. If you want flat walking the Thames path is nearby. Henley, Marlow, Wallingford and Thame are all within easy reach. You can walk to local villages and pubs from the site. I especially recommend the sausage and mustard mash at the Bull & Butcher in Turville. The Country Fox is a mere ten minutes walk where the food isn't quite as good as the Bull & Butcher but its not bad and very handy if you fancy a couple of beers at the end of a long day. Ted and Jackie are extremely welcoming and helpful. There are some great local walks which they will tell you about This is a great site just to sit on in the evenings and watch the Red Kites, Bats and even an owl.

A wonderful week

We wanted a peaceful and restful week, and what a week it was. Having never visited the Chiltons, we were unsure what to expect, but we needn't have worried, it was perfect, location and views from the site were stunning, our hosts Ted and Jackie welcoming and the weather did not disappoint , we walked by the Thames and visited Marlow and Henley. A wonderful week.

Wonderful

This is a wonderful and spectacular spot and the Red Kites entertained us through some very dreary and cold May weather. Then warmth of welcome from the owners was second to none. Our only reservation is that the chemical emptying point and rubbish disposal are both a long way from where the caravans are pitched. I had to use the car for toilet emptying. There is considerable road noise from the M40 which is why I have not put the overall rating at 5.

Wonderful CL

What a lovely CL!! We arrived to a very warm welcome from Ted and Jackie, who were very much in evidence over the weekend. They provided a very comprehensive information pack and were quick to offer help when we were struggling with a new awning. As you arrive on the field there is a board giving your pitch number which is very helpful. The vans are pitched against the hedge looking down across the valley and up the other side, with hardly a building in sight. Although we needed levelling blocks this was mitigated by the view which is the best we have ever had on a CL. There are red kites flying over the site almost constantly, coming really close to the vans. We watched the flock of sheep and the many horses on the farm as we sat enjoying the view. Ted and Jackie's sheep dog, Tess, is very friendly and always keen to play though this is not encouraged as she is a working dog. We will certainly return to this CL - the countryside is stunning, the walks inviting and there are plenty of attractions should the weather prove inclement.

Definitely one to come back to!

What a gem of a spot! High on a hill with sweeping views across the valley, red kites soaring pretty close sometimes, and Soay sheep and horses in neighbouring fields. There are a million stars overhead on a clear night - but you can see the glow that is London on the distant horizon. Awesome. The owners, Jackie and Ted, are delightful people, friendly and welcoming, and do everything they possibly can to make your stay fuss free, eg extra levelling blocks are available to help with the slope of the hill. It's well worth it just for the views! A water tap at every power pillar is a welcome touch. Tess, the farm collie, is also very friendly and would love to play ball but sadly she is not encouraged to be on the CL.It's hard to resist her when she comes to say hello though. Plenty to do in the local area, and beauty spots are all around you with photo opportunities. In fact, next time we go (and make no mistake, there will be a next time) we must build in time to just sit inside or outside the van and soak up that peace.

Beautiful peaceful site

We spent a lovely bank hol weekend here. Very easy to find. We liked the board with names on so we knew where to pitch our caravan. The owners are very friendly. No problems with water or electric. Pitches are sloping but the views more than make up for any effort needed to level up. Lots of local walks and when we return we will be prepared with map of the area and will be asking Ted or Jackies' advice. Our labrador thoroughly enjoyed herself. Local pub 5 mins walk. Yes, one of the few sites we will return to.
