We have recently returned from a long weekend at Aston Heath Farm - very pleased to have found such a fantastic site in beautiful Derbyshire, and one of the best CLs we've stayed at.
The views from the pitches are of the Derbyshire Dales & we were lucky to have some sunshine in October. Aston Heath Farm is situated in a quite area and is excellent for heading out to explore the area. There are some super villages nearby with canal walks and National Trust, Sudbury Hall & Childrens Museum is a must. The facilites are excellent, nice flat pitches, good quality hardstanding or grass pitches which are well drained, recycling area, water tap on every pitch, electric hook up & a clean modern shower room & toilet. There is a lovely field just at the top of the driveway which is fenced off for dog walking and Keith has mowed pathways around the field and the pond which is a really nice touch & makes it easy to walk your dog before heading out for the day.
Keith is very friendly and welcoming and we shall be returning next year.
Thank you Keith for a lovely stay.
We were looking for an alternative CL which was of good quality and secure whilst undertaking our annual visit to my home town of Burton upon Trent and, being unhappy with other options in the area, at last discovered a first class jewel in the crown CL at Aston Heath Farm CL, Sudbury, Derbyshire, DE6 5HH which is owned and operated by the Brandrick family.
From the first impressions of the perfectly cut and shaped hedges as we approached the CL, and then driving along the driveway - with its neatly cut grass on either side, leading into an impressive courtyard beyond – we were not to be disappointed! Beyond the courtyard is to be found on the left part of the 1.5 acre CL with five hard standing options and several more pitches options located on a very generous sized quality grassed lawned area.
Each pitch has an electrical point and its own water tap, and TV reception is good – all this for just £25 per night plus a small additional cost for the use of the shower!
The buildings - including the toilet disposal area - are all of modern construction of high standard.
Upon arrival, we were warmly received by Mr Brandrick who told us that his CL had been open for some 20 years and was extremely flexible regarding where and how we parked our caravan subject of course to legislation re fire regulations - we wondered why it had taken us all this time to discover this excellent CL!
His wife operates a successful adjoining B&B business.
The CL is ideally located to visit other places in the area, with relatively short distances to visit Derby (16 miles), Burton upon Trent (10 miles), Ashbourne (10 miles), Dovedale (15 miles), Matlock (24 miles), Buxton (31 miles), Uttoxeter (7 miles), the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas (17 miles), Lichfield (18 miles), Alton Towers (15 miles).
And a very highly recommended restaurant is The Roebuck, Tobys Hill, Draycott in the Clay DE6 5BT (just 3 miles away) where we enjoyed an excellent two course lunch for £13 and a three course meal for just £16 with fabulous cheerful service – it even brews its own lager at the rear of the premises!
A peaceful and tranquil site, well off the main roads - it was lovely to enjoy the birds singing as we sat outside our caravan to enjoy the views !
There is no doubt that we will be visiting this CL again without doubt, God willing !
The Owners of this CL are very well worthy of all our support for their efforts in developing for us Members an excellent CL which is VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !
So DO please support them....you know the saying: "Use it or lose it" lol !!!!
Nice site with a view, very well kept. Choice of hard standing or grass pitches. One toilet and shower room, (no toilet paper provided or hand drying facility.) Found the constant thrum of the nearby A50 a little annoying. Surprised to see, at one point of our stay, 8 pitches occupied including a tent.
As many have said this is a very well kept site overall with lovely pitches inc hookup and taps on pitches. The only big negative was the state of the shower room. We had paid the extra £25 a night as we needed a shower and WC room because of our daughter travelling with us. The room was dirty and there was no toilet roll or anyway of drying hands. Not sure if this was because there was 10 extra caravans and tents using the site for a rally but the listing says these are for CL users only.
This was a local weekend away for us with our daughter and son in law and their children. They are new to caravanning and it was an opportunity for them to tow locally and get used to everything. It couldn't have been better, this site was so good. Lovely clean bathroom, hard standing pitches with own water and electric points and a wonderful grassy area in front of us that was well maintained. Even had a small children's play area. We truly couldn't have had better. We spent the day at the Museum of childhood in Sudbury, less than 5 minutes away. To top it all had lovely views from our pitch when we were on site.
We will definitely be coming here again in the future.
This is an excellent spacious CL. Most pitches have their own water tap and are well maintained. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. If you want to spend time with non-caravanning friends or relatives they also have two rooms available which are also maintained and equiped to a very high standard. For those with dogs there are lots of footpaths and and a dog field in the next village of Foston. Well worth a visit whilst thereare; The National Brewery Centre in Burton, Tutbury, Ecclesbourne Vally Railway, Uttoxeter, Ashbourne and Buxton. Posh eats are available at excellent Boars Head at Draycott and cheap eats in Uttoxeter.
This was a well kept site with friendly owners. It has well spaced level hard standing or grass pitches with hook up with mature hedge and trees around the perimeter. There is a large (mown) grass area for kids to run around on. There is also a nice stroll around the mown paths through the meadow by the pond at the front of the farm. Nice views across the surrounding farmland. Very conveniently located just off the A50 near Derby. I'm not sure what places to visit are in the area as we stayed here so we were close to visit relatives in Derby.
This is our third visit and it is still a quality site. Pitches are nicely spaced as hardstanding and plenty of space on the grass pitches. The whole grass area is beautifully kept so no wet long grass in the mornings to worry about. The hills in the distance make a fine view and the open skies are inspiring. Keith & Ellie provide a warm welcome and are on hand for any issues. They now offer picnic boxes at a reasonable price should one want a rest from cooking! Our picnic box was full of savouries and pastries to go with our bubbly!
Tried the new picnic boxes offered by the site owners last night. Great quality and plenty of different items.
If you fancy a night off of cooking these are superb.
Pre book for an easy arrival meal or any other time.
