Pleasant site

A well kept site with excellent facilities. Well spaced across a large area and plenty of welcome hard standing for wet weather . Good value and an easy and friendly arrival.  Unfortunately we didn't have good weather for our short stay but the owner popped out to check we were ok in the strong winds .. a nice touch. The only slight downside for us is the limited off road walks directly from site for our dogs although the lanes are very quite the footpaths are signed but not well kept.

Overall a good place to stay , would recommend a visit

Lovely and well placed site

We stayed for the weekend in October 15.  A lovely location with good facilities.  Access to the toilet and shower block was a bonus.  Great views, easy to get to and so well placed for some beautiful countryside, the Peaks and various NT properties.  Certainly would look to go again.

Excellent site

Mr Brandrick works very hard to ensure that this site is spick and span and is also a very genial and helpful host. We (two vans) stayed here for 3 nights recently and were very pleased with the peacefulness of this site and proximity to umpteen places of interest. The bathroom facilities were new and very good for a 5 unit site and the price was what we considered to be very good value.

Great CL

Just stayed here for a very relaxing week. It is very well kept, spacious, level, and with a choice of grass or hard standing pitch. The shower & toilet are first class. It's location is just off the A50 but traffic noise was not an issue. The adjacent field had cows but again, did not spoill our stay. Will I return? You betcha !

Outstanding

Just returned from two nights on this excellent CL. Some commercial sites could learn a thing or two from the hardworking owner. The large grass area of the field is cut every other day and has lots of spots with hook ups and taps nearby. We pitched our motorhome on the grass and there were three caravans using the hard standing pitches. I didn't see anyone using levelling blocks.  While we were there the owner who is extremely welcoming was constantly working either cutting grass, tidying kerbs, sorting bins etc  The refuse area was immaculate as was the chemical toilet emptying point with easy access to park by it.  The modern shower/loo wet room was spotless and provided an excellent shower for only 20p.  The view to the front of the field is very attractive and the site is a very sunny spot.  The lane from the A50 is narrow but there are plenty of passing places and while there is some traffic noise from the A50 this does not detract from the quality of the site in any way.  Sudbury Hall national trust property is within cycling distance and other properties are not far away.   This was our first visit but will not be our last. A superbly run CL and excellent value at £12.

Excellent place to stay

We've just returned from a last minute, 1 night stay.  I will most definitely stay here again.  As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed by a really nice gentleman who directed us to our hard standing pitch.  This was very uneven so next time I will stay on a grass pitch instead.  The site itself is very well looked after & very peaceful (I didnt notice any road noise).  We paid £12 for the night & I feel this was a bargain for 3 adults, 1 child & 2 cars. There is only 1 shower with toilet but as there are only 8 or so pitches, I don't see this being a problem.  Do take your own toilet paper if you decide to use the toilet on site.  We visit the Vernon Arms pub for meals so next time we will stay here instead of driving from Burton on Trent.  We will be returning, thank you.

sound touring base

We spent 3 nights here in mid-March and found access to main roads very convenient. There is a small amount of road noise only from A50 and this was far less than I had feared ( see prior review) The facilities were impeccably clean but do take your own toilet roll! Internet was available for £1.00 per stay but was at time of our visit intermittent but awaiting remedy. Ashbourne about 10 miles to north with good mix of supermarkets and smaller local shops. Would happily stay again for one night en route or for longer if in area again.

Fine site but...

The site has 4 hardstanding pitches down one side of a large paddock beyond the Farm House. The H/S pitches were fairly narrow and required levelling blocks. The remains of the site was level grass with plenty of room. There are good views in two directions, especially south over the Dove valley. Uttoxeter is the nearest town with a Tesco and a soon to be finished Lidl. There are a number of NT properties not far away, the nearest being Sudbury Hall 3 mls away. For children of all ages Alton Towers is also nearby. There are a couple of footpaths leading off the drive to the site and others close by. The lanes are quiet and suitable for cycling & dog walking. The one big downside for us was the constant noise from the traffic on the A50, the main route leading from the Potteries to the Derby/Nottingham conurbation, which hardly diminished during the night. It certainly was bad enough that we won't be returning to this site.
