Break down cover

We have used Mayday twice and it was faultless so tend to stick with them. The RAC cover with C&CC was more expensive and I see no reason to have to haggle to get what I have already.

Don't you query the renewal price on all insurance policies, WW? I do it regularly and it's rare not to get a reduction for the sake of a phone call. The days of paying up without question are long gone.

I already get 20% discount as a retired employee on most policies but have rung to query theprice from time to time. The premium on Mayday though is too low to negotiate. I do not see the point of having to argue with the higher quote just to get it down to the level of thec lower one though.

As with any insurance it is the quality of cover when you need it that matters the most, I for instance have stuck with my AXA car insurance despite getting cheaper quotes online. When I have spoken to them they have always managed to lower my renewal a bit but not match the others but they have tried and I know this about them.

When I needed them a few years ago (not my fault someone reversed into my car) they performed faultlessly. Appraised my damage, (I could still use the car) a man turned up with a courtesy car on a beaver tail  on a pre arranged day, took my car away, 4 days later my car was returned and that was that all sorted from 1 phone call.

Not breakdown insurance but the point is it is worth paying 50 quid more for something I hope I won’t need but I know will work if it has to.

I am with Mayday for my breakdown cover it might be possible to get something cheaper but not by much, I 100% know if me or Bev breakdown in our motor home or car or someone else’s car and caravan there motor home or car Mayday will come to us and either get it going, get us to somewhere that can get us going or take us home.

I can’t say I ever remember seeing on a forum here someone with a bad word to say about Mayday and Mayday know the power of a forum like this to get a bad reputation if not delivering the service promised

So far I have never needed to call them and I hope I never will so I honestly hope I am throwing that money down the drain but if I do need them they will be there.

I suppose my point is sometimes you do get what you pay for even if you don’t use it and hope you will never need to but if you need it, well you dam well need it to do the job and do it well

Just my thought and of course I might be wrong

Mayday have had a few glitches reported on here but the overwhelming position is very good. I would not go elsewhere.

Dick.  Look at ADAC they are about £100 and also cover you for UK (the AA would come out if in UK) so cheaper than the £112 mentioned earlier for UK only!  Length limit is 10m for caravan so that should not be a problem!

Have a look at a Nationwide flex plus account, it covers Caravans and trailers - 8 metres in length (including A-frame)  U.K. and European cover, it cost £10 per month but you get 3% on balances upto £2500 so it works out less than £4-00 per month if you get the maximum back. Also gives other benefits, well worth a look at their website for full details and exceptions of course

Hi phoned AA today they said 7m is the max shipping length,do adac still cover British nationals

I would suggest Brittania (although they used to cover our 7.3 m single axle, I can't find the policy details on their website) OR try Safeguard (we have this cover) who have a bolt on CARAVAN breakdown cover which also covers the car (via AA)  if you also need caravan insurance. OR I'm certain Diane will supply exact details of how to contact ADAC if you decide you want to go that route. It IS a minefield so check that the cover is exactly what you need at a price you want to pay.

Some but not all key points are cover for a CARAVAN breakdown, cover if the caravan and car are not connected (e.g. you are out for the day in the car and have a serious car breakdown or accident  which necessitates repatriation) Make sure they will also get the van.  Remember, repatriation is their decision not yours and you would have to pay for repair work over the cover that is within the policy (they will tow and deliver spares to wherever you are), I think.....
