What constitutes an awning?

Hi everyone,

Still new to this game. :-)

We have an IH panel van conversion, 6.4 metres long. If we book a 'Pitch Without Awning' does that mean that we would not be able to use our wind-out awning at all? Forgive me if this seems a stupid question, but I do feel there is a difference between those luxurious and enormous awnings that effectively doubles the size of a caravan, and which takes some time to erect and dismantle, and our simple wind-out affair which just takes minutes to open and strap down and which just provides a bit of cover from the weather.

What is the official take on what is an awning, please? If I book a pitch without awning and then wind my awning out, and perhaps put a windbreak side on, will I be breaking the rules and find myself in trouble with the site wardens?

Many thanks,

Mike.

I agree with ABM. You could regret choosing non-awning and wardens might prohibit the erection of your canopy on some sites. Sometimes non-awning pitches are in less desirable areas of sites - but not always.

Oh rats. Well I don't want to upset anybody (specially myself) on my very first CC site so I'll amend that then. I assumed it was all about the 3m fire break but seems there's more to it than that.
The booking form requires the length of my outfit, so I put 7m just to make sure of enough length for the Go-Tarp. It's likely I'll need a rain porch in Devon in March/April!

Quite  agree,  TW,  it  looks  a  little  beauty  smile

Just  one  more  thing,  Heather  :--  On  arrival  at  your  first  Club  Site  chat  to  the  wardens  and  I  am  positive  that  they  will  look  at  your  outfit  &  give  you  all  the  information / advice  that  you  need.  We  on  here  cannot  really,  in  all  honesty,  give  you  that  advice  just  from  a  photograph.

Happy  Times  Ahead  !!

Let's face it.  On a good day the warder may not bar a eye at a marquefe.  On a bad day my Vivi bag would be banned.  Depends on many factors, including but not limited to amount of dog poo, dirty facilities, speeders, etc.  Some would say they are only human 😋.  I jest of course 😁😉.

The nub of it, surely, is the occupancy of the space that would normally be taken by the tow car. It's about time the CAMC clarified this issue once and for all. Perhaps someone can report this post to bring it to the attention of the powers that be.

That's about it! Just need to account for those 6 & 3s! If you don't and just assume then expect to be told to correct. Best seek advice than 'do  your own thing' as that's when trouble starts.

One thing to remember, not all non awning pitches are size limited; some are non awning because you can't hammer pegs into the surface, because it is paved, concrete or tarmac.

For example, Chapel Lane, new non awning pitches at Tewkesbury Abbey and others.
