Posted on 09/12/2019 20:20 by SteveLNot campsites David, but cottages. We set it so we were comfortable and paid the bill. To me it is just a cost in overall holiday expenditure, to go along with fuel, tolls etc.

Posted on 09/12/2019 18:59 by CornersteadyAnd I would too, indeed have done so. Earlier visits to cottages we had to read the meters and pay whatever we had used which we did quite happily. We also used whatever heat and lighting we needed to have a comfortable holiday without even thinking for one second what it was costing us.
I personally find it just incredible that people holiday any other way. To spend (hundreds of) thousands on your outfit, then fuel, and in your case ferry and insurance costs and then worry about a few pounds per day is beyond belief.
Either one hasn't done one's homework properly to tae into account for the extra costs or one is trying to emulate the lead character in A Christmas Carol.
One is on holiday!

Posted on 09/12/2019 21:09 by Cornersteadyhave to agree fully. If you're going on holiday worrying about heating bills, it's not a holiday.

And no it is not good fortune at all.

As brutal as it first sounds MrC what you say is pure logic. Spending vast amounts on 1 item to then scrabble around in a panic for chump change does sound counter intuitive. Then again-there’s no accounting for taste, each to their own, choice is king👍🏻

I do think you need to read my post carefully before jumping in Dave, I have no problem with your lifestyle (I think you mean caravaning btw?).
Nothing to do with warm places (where did I mention that btw?) or the distance as I think you well know. It is all about the money spent
To reiterate clearly what I find at tad amazing is those who spend whatever large amount on their holidays in whatever way and then worry about a few pounds by leaving the meter running. It would appear that many share my thoughts.
If caravans had been around in Dickens' time I'm sure it would be a characteristic of Scrooge and described in the book with the alternative happy ending of Bob being told he can leave the heating on gas, before dotting another i,and being told to go out and connect the EHU.

We switch the heating off in the van when we are out, which is most of the time, not for economic reasons but because we think it is the right thing to do. Fifteen minutes on gas soon bring the van up to temperature then turn down and and revert to electric
