PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.

This thread is not for discussions. Post ONLY factual information.

To provide a comprehensive list of problems encountered, I would suggest that each post lists only one issue at a time.

Provide details of problem  as concisely as possible.

Operating system, machine used and relevant software. i.e. Macbook/ PC/tablet, Windows XP/ iOS7 etc, Safari/Internet Explorer/Chrome inc version No.

Please do not enter into discussions such as "I've had/not had this problem" as this will detract from the objectivity of the thread. Hopefully this thread may assist the IT department in finding where "all the bodies are buried".

PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.

The resources necessary to host this forum - a domain and server space can be purchased for about £200 pounds a year.

If advertising were allowed on it then several thousand pounds a year could be generated from it. So there are no excuses for what we have to suffer.

Unfortunately you can't equate what it might cost a private individual to set up a forum with something the size of Club Together with 400,000 subscribers. I think the server costs alone would be many times your figure. Personally I would not want advertising either. You would also have the add in the staff costings. Whilst the overall figures would not be massive in the scheme of things it would be an element of additional costs compared to now.

Since the CC/CMC retail business started their "forum" a number of years ago, it has been obvious that they did not want to spend any time or money on providing a professional type forum. They merely shackled a bit of poor quality homespun software to their main website and called it a forum. Apart from a bit of unsuccessful tinkering, this is how it remains to this day.. It will never change as the concept was wrong from the start.

They have and will put resources into Facebook which is easy for them to manage and this forum will gradually die a death-- Are they really interested in what their Forum members think or want or even suggest.

In a word ---- NO.!

Either live with it as it is, or post elsewhere, there are plenty of alternative forums.

cool

Several things have been corrected. We no longer seem to get duplicate posts within threads. LIkewise we don't get duplicate discussions both of which were a major distraction. I understand elements of the CL reviews have been attended to. However there are still some quite large areas of the forum which still need attention. People using Apple systems seem to have difficulty posting an avatar. The Story Section has never been sorted out and I am sure there are other issues as well which are outstanding.

As I think I have said a few times before Club Together has to make a case for taking up IT resources and if that were to put other more essential areas of the Club IT at risk them I suspect we will always be at the back of the queue. What we don't know is whether the introduction of other online media like Facebook has sucked resources away from Club Together. Perhaps wishful thinking but it would be nice to think that the Club could look at alternative platforms for Club Together which would improve the experience beyond measure. It could also be in the Club's best interest to do so as it might release resources for other uses?

If the site made a new year resolution to improve, it has failed already. Seems to have been very up and down in speed / response times since the new year, more so than before. Avatars still keep disappearing and reappearing and timeout time variable from most of the day to about 5 minutes.

I didn't think it was too bad over Christmas and New Year but today it is very slow to load and keeps timing out. Tried to check whether weather had affected a couple of sites on late availability but would not load!

Any chance that we'll get the problems with changing or identifying Avatars sorted out before the next Forum is launched? Is anybody working at it or just ignoring the problem as usual?

Hi Wherenext, I've chased the relevant team and they are currently working on the fix regarding avatars. Hopefully it should be resolved next month and I will keep you updated.

Is it me or is the "jump to last reply" function on each thread not working? It seems to be jumping back to the first page? (not on all threads)
