PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.

This thread is not for discussions. Post ONLY factual information.

To provide a comprehensive list of problems encountered, I would suggest that each post lists only one issue at a time.

Provide details of problem  as concisely as possible.

Operating system, machine used and relevant software. i.e. Macbook/ PC/tablet, Windows XP/ iOS7 etc, Safari/Internet Explorer/Chrome inc version No.

Please do not enter into discussions such as "I've had/not had this problem" as this will detract from the objectivity of the thread. Hopefully this thread may assist the IT department in finding where "all the bodies are buried".

PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.

I think what David is saying in diplomatic language is that other forums are purpose built for the job by professionals specialising in that field whereas this is a cobbled together effort.

Most forums that I have used have a fairly short edit period and some do not permit edits after a response has been made

Agree there, but surely changing/editiing a previous post well after a number of people have responded to the initial post would result in those subsequent post possibly not giving a correct response to the edited post and so be very confusing to someone reading through whole correspondence. Perhaps if Milo wanted to correct his post he should just submit a new one pointing out his previous error?

It’s not been my experience elsewhere that changing a post later causes confusion, Nellie. Have you noticed it? I think people are generally sensible enough not to do that.

Like TW say's as forums go it's pretty rubbish. The 3 other forums I frequent are totally different and very user friendly. I really see no issue with being able to return to a post and edit it. Why only restrict it to certain members ? the facility must exist for moderators to have permission enabled and I would bet it would be a very simple task to allow all users to use it. Often on other forums I have been able to go back a couple of days later and add a link or some pictures. On here if you want to do this you have to post again, Plain Daft tongue-out

Can't say I have, but that's because the changes have been made soon after the post was introduced and not before many have posted responses. I can envisage problems if, for sake of argument, 3 pages of responses have been made and the OP then decides to edit his/her original post and by doing so changes it's original meaning/idea.

I have been a member of a classic car forum since May 2009 and made over 8000 post, being able to edit a post at anytime has not caused any issues so far wink

Several things have been corrected. We no longer seem to get duplicate posts within threads. LIkewise we don't get duplicate discussions both of which were a major distraction. I understand elements of the CL reviews have been attended to. However there are still some quite large areas of the forum which still need attention. People using Apple systems seem to have difficulty posting an avatar. The Story Section has never been sorted out and I am sure there are other issues as well which are outstanding.

As I think I have said a few times before Club Together has to make a case for taking up IT resources and if that were to put other more essential areas of the Club IT at risk them I suspect we will always be at the back of the queue. What we don't know is whether the introduction of other online media like Facebook has sucked resources away from Club Together. Perhaps wishful thinking but it would be nice to think that the Club could look at alternative platforms for Club Together which would improve the experience beyond measure. It could also be in the Club's best interest to do so as it might release resources for other uses?

The resources necessary to host this forum - a domain and server space can be purchased for about £200 pounds a year.

If advertising were allowed on it then several thousand pounds a year could be generated from it. So there are no excuses for what we have to suffer.

I don't think anyone can add an avatar or change an old one at the moment, so any new members will just have a blank box. This has diminished the general appearance of the CT area.
