How do we move on?

I've just been looking through the last few weeks of posts and I guess that there's probably less than 20 of us that regularly post on here, with probably a few new members who contribute occasionally.  But given the total membership of the CC we are nothing more than a mere pimple on the Elephants B**b.  So,- its not really any wonder that the CC ruling body take very little notice (If any) of what we say.

So how do we improve things? Personally I have long thought that our power of debate and thought, is often diluted by cynical humour. However, given our tiny ability to influence things, that is not really surprising.

So how do we make this forum more influential?

Or perhaps that is not our role?  I really do not know, & even if I did, that would do little to ease the situation, because others would seek to argue the opposite view.

So where do we go from here? Do we accept that we are of no real value at all?  Should we try harder to show the way forward?  But perhaps that's not our role!   Maybe just a light weight banter fellowship will be always our role.  But if that is the case why do we get so cross when we think that someone else is upsetting or disagreeing with us?

Perhaps its too late, and I should go to bed, but I really do think that once we were on to something, - now I'm not so sure!

I think we've done that, Broadside. I remember us compiling a wish list which Rowena passed on to someone else. That was a long time ago......

Only 20? Didn't someone recently state at the AGM that there are 350,000 CT users? I do think most of them have made at least one post, even if it was to castigate the Chairman for his embarassing turn on COTY. I was amazed at how many knew their way onto the forum.

Nothing much wrong with the forum. Some brilliant advice to be found in the caravannning (and motorhome) sections. The General Chat could be seen to be getting a bit cliquey if you're a newcomer and may be intimidating to some.

Photos? Some will overuse it but if its what most want then I'm happy to have it.

I do wish that HQ would become more involved, maybe question and answer sessions, not limited to the current 2 hours every Preston Guild that currently applies. Sometimes threads have died a death waiting for replies from those Upstairs.

Overall, 8 out of 10 from me.

There might be 350,000 website users, which is an entirely different thing. You have to register with an email address, so that you can book via the website. Those who visit the forum will be a lot lower, and those who participate on a regular basis will be a great deal lower. It takes a very unusual thread to get people posting into the hundreds. The last time I can remember dozens of different CT users actively participating was to register their thoughts and comments regarding the Caravanner of the Year Competition, back April/May time? That certainly egged the pudding enough to create a stir! The thread will still be there somewhere, pages back. Lots of different users names contributed to that thread.Happy

There seem to be three sorts of contributors on here. 1. Those who want advice.  2. Those who are happy to give advice.  3. Those who just want to chat, discuss, natter, and argue with each other.

I guess I'm in each of the three groups too.  I post on CT several times virtually every day in some section or another.

You must be joking !

The forum software is RUBBISH !

Go online to any of many comparable forums and see how the software could be made much much more user friendly.  It's no wonder there are so few regular posters.  Many people have given up and gone elsewhere.

THis sin't some new thing and would not take much money to fix, but the powers that be at the CC clearly think that it is not a priority.

Yes the software does it's job just. No one on here would say its is brilliant. But, but, what is the main aim of the club? To have a good network of sites for us to use or a good website to use. What would you rather have? Well run club sites or a fantastic website.

I tink Ct does a good job. The advice given to problems is outstanding, for example someone posts a problem with their heater on their fist night on site and answers are forthcoming almost straight away. Advice on awnings, parts, caravans, best routes, best sites... is very good too. For this alone CT is excellent. It also keeps us amused when not actually away in our favourite hobby

Yes there is banter and sometimes heated arguments but they don't detract too much from the points above.

Write your comments here... I wasn't commenting on the saoftware merely the threads and participants. I agree the software is rubbish and if you've read any of my posts you would see me regularly saying so.
