Sites Directory and pitch charges

Like myself, I would imagine lots of members need to know the likely costs before they go through the ritual of choosing a particular campsite, and the best price according to time of season.

A good example is the 2017/2018 CAMC directory - look up the campsite and the pitch costs are clearly displayed.  Not so now. To find out exactly what it will cost you means a laborious lowing through the system to get these important details.

I don’t know why this unhelpful change was introduced, but it is of no assistance to members and does not indicate any intelligence by the Club administrators when formatting the handbook.

Actually I have recently come across some quite surprising people who dont use the internet.  For example a professional person who used the internet & computers at work and now retired has no computer or internet, doesnt use her phone to connect to the internet, doesnt do email.

perhaps she's trying to UN-invent the wheel ...

I know a few people like that and despite many conversations with them in recent years I can't quite get to the bottom of it. Rather oddly on of them ran a works pensioner group and she asked me to set up an email account for the group so that we could communicate our meetings and events but she steadfastly refused to be part of it despite the fact that to set up her tablet she would have had an email address!

I just wonder whether its really possible to be a member of the CMC these days without some access to the internet. Be interesting to know how many members only book by telephone? Once the booking system has calmed down it wouldn't surprise me that the Club won't introduce a surcharge for booking by phone? I understand they do for overseas bookings.

The mind boggles, I know of no one who I cannot contact on line. There can be no businesses or organisations in this day and age that are not on line. Very often the only way you can do things these days is on line, many no longer encourage phone contact in fact trying to phone is a hopeless task even if they publish a number. I get a respone in 24 hours to emails from my surgery but try phoning, forget it!

I think it's best never to assume how others like to do things, in this case make their holiday bookings or find insurance etc. CAMC isn't part of a huge conglomerate and needs to remember it's varied membership base and remain user friendly in the form of on line contact and printed paper routes.

For whatever reason not everyone is agile on computer systems and some find it less than easy.

But there comes a time when companies and organisations have to modrnise or die and provide for the majority.. I am sure the Club knows just how many members use on line facilities. There will be a time when it is not economical to provide for the minority. I would be surprised if we have not reach that point today.

It took me 63 seconds, starting from scratch this morning, to go to "book a campsite," search an area, find a site, enter my details and check out the price for Easter.

I agree peedee, and to be fair to the club they are at least maintaining a non computer method of booking with no supplement, which is more than can be said for many organisations.

Peedee, it doesn't matter what you can do easily that's fine but some can't. I think you always have to bear in mind the general population not your own abilities.

I think what peedee is saying is that the general population is fine with using computers to book and it is a small minority who aren’t. However, as I put above currently the club allow for that minority with a hard copy SD and phone booking, so there isn’t really an issue.

But before September 2022 I had not a clue how to use the current system, like many others I had to learn.
