Non-members on CLs

No names (just yet...).

On a CL (which has recently changed hands) the other week when a single guy in VW T5 home conversion turns up late at night and is away again 6am the next morning.  When speaking to the CL owner the next morning I said I was surprised to see he'd let someone stay in a van with no toilet (given that the CL has no toilets).  He seemed a little vague as to whether the person was a club member (I suspect he wasn't).

Is either issue acceptable?  Certainly I think the no toilet issue is a complete no no and I'm not over the moon about letting non members in just out of greed (well what other reason is there?).

Andy

Really when was the last time you used a CL? It's been all club sites for this year?

Since you are questioning my honesty I will answer. 2 months ago. I will also ask you when did you ever use one . await your apology but not holding  my breath.

Was I Dave? I don't think I did so nothing to apologise for, I can only post on what you tell us all on here and you never mentioned using one just expensive club sites, I don't suppose you'll name the CL? Might be useful for other's travel plans, it must have been a  good one, up to club standards, for you to have used it

As you say you use them why do you want to condone possibly endangering them?

The doubt over membership is all that is needed to make the report and the club will then investigate. They don't expect members to turn into Sherlock😄

So somebody contacts HQ to say they saw a campervan on site that may or may not have been a member.

Site owner's response he gave me a number. Club asks what the number was. If the owner wishes he can make up a number as I have never been asked for membership details other than that I give my number on the phone or by e-mail. Never asked to show a card on a CL.

Club says No such membership. So what, as the site owner has no way of checking memberships as far as I am aware.

You haven't answered me but then I already know its never. Give them a try you might find a new enjoyable experience away from white pegs. Its not really that scary

Dave - as you often say remember you're not in the classroom any morelaughing

Actually 4, but why you keep on trying to take the thread off topic is puzzling?

Thats my recent experience too , being asked on the phone, some people do still work on the basis of honesty and trust.. In the past I don't ever remember being asked at all.

Posted on 17/10/2021 10:07

Nt sure but I think that I have been asked but as I always give my number over the phone etc in recent years I would not be asked

The site owner certainly does have a way of checking the validity of a membership number.

Anyway, none of what you say should deter us members from protecting the exemption system by reporting suspected breaches. It is what the club has asked us to do.

You've mentioned this before, even though posters have seen and talked to inspectors.
