Non-members on CLs

No names (just yet...).

On a CL (which has recently changed hands) the other week when a single guy in VW T5 home conversion turns up late at night and is away again 6am the next morning.  When speaking to the CL owner the next morning I said I was surprised to see he'd let someone stay in a van with no toilet (given that the CL has no toilets).  He seemed a little vague as to whether the person was a club member (I suspect he wasn't).

Is either issue acceptable?  Certainly I think the no toilet issue is a complete no no and I'm not over the moon about letting non members in just out of greed (well what other reason is there?).

Also the new app membership card is good, quite clever it always shows today's date so can't be a picture. Felt very high tech using it. It also works in two shops I used it to obtain discounts.

Now who is off topic. How clever the app is I can't see why anybody would use it on a CL as owners tend to rely on being given a number and I have never been asked for further proof.

I think you're wrong there Dave, and to quote yourself have you been counting and remembering my postssurprised

As to asking another quote of yours - remember you're not in the classroomlaughing

Now please really stay on topic for the benefit of others, rather than try and cover up your previous posts? I now will be, but you carry on, (really it's like being back at work, I like it)

As Easy T says, who asks.  Again I say its a cash business with virtually no inspection. What happens, someone reports. Maybe an inspector calls and the site is empty. End of.

I am amazed you know so much about how the system works, do you have real inside information. Even when other different posters have said they have seen inspections actually on a CL you still persist in your no inspection theme, why?

I'm sure if I was an inspector I would perhaps arrange an appointment by phone/email...rather than just turn up?

I doubt that many CL owners do check. Which is probably the real world situation.

Then they are the fools.

I fail to see how showing your membership card to prove one is a member on a CL is going off topic, so it most certainly is not.

On the rare occasions I used a CL in the past I had to show my card.

Then they are putting the system, and more importantly to them I assume, their earnings at risk?

Posted on 17/10/2021 10:43

Very much doubt that in reality as there is no available evidence of proof as to who has visited a site.

You're privy to the records are you, ET?

However, none of this is helping the OP decide whether to report the suspected breach of exemption rules. I say, if he has doubts strong enough to warrant posting them here, he should do it and not return to the site.

Whereas over best part of 40 years I never have. Maybe things have recently changed but in my recent visits to CLs I never have. That is why I consider smart apps have little relevance here

Really, all cash in hand you mean, tax avoidance sort of thing? I remember paying by cheque actually.

Are these CLs not businesses? I've no idea but I would assume there would be some record keeping?

So if he has doubts he can advise the club that he has a suspicion but no proof. As he has no evidence why would he not give the CL the benefit of the doubt; guilty until proven innocent?

The OP seems to jump to readily to conclusions based on hunches. Such as the T5 having no toilet facility and, much like the OP, nothing to go on.
