What I did in work today

I hope this does not upset anyone but thought as there was a post mainly for us retired people to discuss what we do at our leisure that there should also be a post for those still working to post. Just as some might be jealous of our freetime, some might be missing work cammeradery.

Finally caught up with the backlog at work today after my holiday.  Happy  All accounts, invoices, and bank accounts reconciled, even the filing has been done!  Innocent

Next big thing to tackle is Auto Enrolement for employees pensions!

I think I'm sorted - but we only have one employee (who will be 65 in August). I'm using NEST.

Going to use NEST too, plan is to get it all set up next week, hopefully!  Undecided

12 deliveries done yesterday and £50.50 earned in delivery fees. Actual time spent on deliveries was one hour in the afternoon and four hours in the evening. So that works out to over £10 per hour. The rest of the time we were at home in our caravan.

Write your comments here...Does that satisfy Ian?

Well, if you want to count being on call for hours on end, not being allowed to go anywhere, plan anything or have a normal life of your own as not working.......in order to kid yourself that you are being paid a legal wage by your employer.......then fine.

But you are being exploited and taken for an idiot......sorry if the truth hurts Malcom.

(Incidently, even by your own hopelessly optimistic reckoning, that's £5 per hour, because there are two of you doing the job)

Malcolm.....if you are in any way uncomfortable with my post above, please report it and have it removed. But I'm just trying to point out the realities of life and not meaning any offence.

Write your comments here...Yes, I agree it would be nice to have time off to visit other places. We used to get the day off on Thursdays but not anymore, since the other driver left. However, that does mean we're getting double the amount of deliveries each day and double the earnings to go with it and so it's better in that way.

When I worked for Dominos, they paid the minimum wage but kept cutting the number of hours worked. Yes it meant there was time in the day to go out and visit places but much lower earnings. Not much point in having time off to go out if you have no money to spend! Even if you visit free places, you need to spend some money to buy the fuel to get there!

Write your comments here...The boss did say to us yesterday that he's going to try to arrange for us to have two half days off per week. If he gives us two afternoons off then we'll be free from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. without being on call. This will give us time to visit other places.

What about tips Malc, if we have a delivery I always tip the driver!

Write your comments here...We do get some tips but a lot of people pay online or by card. We usually just get tips on the cash orders.

Not too busy today. We've done six deliveries so far and as there have been no more orders, we're back at the caravan to watch a nice sunset from our front window. Just one more hour to go and we'll have finished work for today. We have a chicken casserole cooking in the slow cooker for our evening meal tonight.

Had my new job interview this morning. It seemed to go ok. Fingers crossed for me. I should hear the result in a couple of weeks
