I wonder why so many racecourse sites have shut?  I stayed at Thirsk, last year.  It was very adequate for the price, very handy for the town centre and surrounding areas and I would definitely stay their again. I was hoping to try Cheltenham and Warwick Sites this year but for various reasons, never made it so they are on the agenda for next year.

Hexham, Fakenham and Market Rasen still have campsites, and are still going strong as far as I know. We certainly had a great time up at Hexham a couple of years ago. Wincanton was a sad loss, we loved it there, but I think it might have been a Jockey Club decision rather than a Club onešŸ¤”

Warwick is a smashing Site, 10 minutes easy stroll into centre, which is a nice interesting place. Great walks and cycling direct from Site, including lots of canal paths. We like being on the rails on the HS at Warwick with our little MH, it’s popular with MHs/campers, as it’s close by some main holiday routes, but there’s lots to see nearby, including Gaydon Motor Museum.

We haven’t stayed at Cheltenham, friends have, they didn’t like it. We do love Exeter Racecourse, in our top three Club Sites. (I had the Strava “local legend fastest circuit on a bike” award at one timešŸ˜šŸ¤£šŸ¤£)  Back in the 1980’s the racecourses were know as Trax AS sites.

From memory Cheltenham Racecourse is a great place to stay especially with its easy access to public transport and you can walk to the steam railway. The only issue is that the pitches are not that level, depending where you pitch. An alternative is Briarfields on the other side of the town with good bus services into town or to Gloucester.

We stayed at HH on the way home one year. Just for the night. It was handy and a shame it's no longer available. Cheltenham literally is a Car Park. Great views and a P&R is walkable nearby but otherwise soulless. Thirsk turns into a Car Park on racedays when everyone has to move into the centre of the course so check your racedays before staying

I donā€™t think Uttoxeter will re open, Club need to update folks on whatā€™s happening there, as itā€™s a good stopover site for either North-South, or East-West.

TTDA, there's a good alternative that can be used about 5-6 miles north off the A50. I've posted about it on the Small Sites thread in UK touring section. Suit both Caravanners and those with M/Home.

Didn't know Uttoxeter was earmarked for closure.  Stayed there once some years ago and, to be honest, I wasn't that keen.... didn't like the 'closed gate restrictions' on race days.

Find if you like staying on a car park, with nothing else to look at but other caravans, in my opinion. Have stayed once but won't be going back again. However others seem to like it, everyone to their own, I suppose.

....we've booked it now....  I'll let you know what I think.

That’s how our friends described Cheltenham WN, a soulless car park. Usually, racecourses are very nice.

DSB, Uttoxeter closed earlier this year after a very bad traveller incursion. We met some CAMC staff back in September who said something about helping shut it up, but it was unclear if this was for season, or for good. It might well depend on Jockey Club rather than CAMC I suppose.

We stayed at Cheltenham Racecourse several years ago. We had a choice of the 'car park' paved section or a grass pitch looking out over the course to the surrounding hills. You can guess which we chose and it was very pleasant although a long way from the facility block.

We’ve had a brilliant one night away at Harrogate. Show of Hands were on top form and the venue (Royal Hall) is an amazing place. The staff and/or volunteers are wonderfully helpful, and help make the night out.

It gave us a chance to give our new car a decent run, though the diverted route (5 week closure of A59 up from Skipton) was a bit stop start through Ilkley and Otley etc.

Tonight we’re going to a secret surprise 50th Birthday Party so it’s all go to get milking etc done in time.

We used to camp at Wincanton, that was a heck of a long walk back down to the facilities there. šŸ˜
