My visit to Lincoln was a history one as well Millie but more to do with the architecture and the tower collapsing. I'll have to go back one day and see the things I missed!

Interesting day here!!!!
Weather wise it's rained virtually all day arghh After our morning walk I went along to our local hospital to have my stitches out...there and back in about an hour, so pleased with that.
Took Flyte our for our afternoon walk at 3:00 got nearly home about 3:45 and was stopped by police tape from going 100yds to our house.    Eventually was allowed through escorted by police officer. There were 3 fire engines and 4 police vehicles along the road. There are, over 4 hours later, still 2 fire tenders, a fire support vehicle, 3 police vehicles and a forensic van parked up. It looks like a major incident at a semi bungalow 4 doors up from our house.

Edit

They have just now started to roll up the tapes and let traffic pass through again, and most of the emergency vehicles have gone.

I read and re-read Anya Seton's book about Katherine when I was in my teens. I still have the very tatty copy somewhere. Such a wonderful love story. When a group of us went to Lincoln when I was doing a Medieval history course many years ago the first thing some of us (mostly the female members if the group) wanted to see was where Katherine was buried. It drove the tutor mad!

OH did have an old copy too, but it fell to bits!! She now has a copy on kindle.laughing

Yes, it’s a good read. Amazing really given all they went through that they ended up married. I have Alison Weir’s more studious biography as well. Can recommend it. We did a bit of exploring round Lincoln based on locations associated with her and John of Gaunt. There’s next to nothing left of Kettlewell Manor, but Bolingbroke Castle is still there, very ruinous. Nice place for a quiet picnic, not many visitors. Then of course, there is Kenilworth Castle. So much history there.

Brue, I can be a very determined explorer when on the trail of something. I knew the armour was in there, and as I walked past the Sacristy door, it was slightly open and I could hear voices inside, so much to my OH ‘s horror, I knocked and popped my head round corner. Church officials were most amused that I had found it, and rather pleased to show it off. It’s the holes in it that are so memorable and chilling. I found Clarence as well, he and his wife are down in a crypt behind the altar. Couldn’t get in there though🙂

Me too, on Kobo. And I got the talking book, unabridged version for just 99p. It was out of print at one time, not sure if you can get it now.😁

Yes tda. It is all online. I am no good at sending links but just google Peterborough Cathedral and you will find it all on their website. There is a talk by historian Sarah Gristwood on the Friday eve 29th which I have booked into, also the services. The guy giving the Old Scarlett tour for the children is who I am usually on duty with on Tuesday mornings. I watched them film it a few weeks ago.  I have just been sent an email to say that the Churches Conservation Trust are running a whole series of what look like really interesting lectures. They are free but ask for a donation. We had our U3A zoom lecture last night about hoaxes in the 18th century. Excellent talk and speaker. I am just so grateful that there are so many good online talks. A company called Mirthy are also running some talks.

My embroidery project is going quite well. I found the instructions difficult to follow so I am doing my own thing.

Goodness ABM an exercise bike and your aged sister dont sound like a good combination 😳. Glad you have your MH sorted.

Quite agree MillieH,  and the dozy old batt now knows my views, so strongly put that Alfie Cat cowered on the settee for a few minutes before settling down again, well he did see me building a pile of cat treats on the kitchen table, so he would calm down swiftly  !

More importantly to yours truly, I got to Vax Point just at the time quoted to be told where to park & what to do. Parked up ok, saw the Marshall { Mr Dillon I think it was } then told to move to the 'ready use carpark ' and stand in the queue in the light drizzle for five minutes. Moved along  like good little obedient children, into the library ( all socially distanced & masked ) then got the 2 minute grilling, two more mins and into a vax point.

Nurse (?) checked my details, gave me the Drill ( Do you have / suffer from   blah blah blah Just a little scratch , ok now follow the signs, sit in the seated area , read and keep your hand out, Take care of the Pass Card, and in 15 minutes go home & OBEY THE RULES.  BIEEEE. )   NEXT !!

Absolutely no problems, even managed to hold my knife & fork ok --  I would have really worried if I had problems eating  wink

Now just 15 days to get the Vax working on my body ( the only thing that will laughing ) then hang on 'til the next call comes !!

Take care everybody,  Behave & Lets all come out the other side

P.S.  Forgot to say that when the Medic first asked who I was, Age, Surgery etc I did say Don't shout out my age, puleese.  To this he just replied, why not, I think you are one of the youngest I've had here !!    That makes me a little worried about the severity of my Diabetes  but I will have to try harder on that  embarassed

Just a heads up to all who may be driving after the jabsurprised

Ps Herts CC are paying for repairs to her car ,to save her NCDsmile

It has not stopped raining here since Tuesday evening ,The ancient spring that was first noticed last year when we had several days of rain has started again and there's now the same as last year a stream that seems as before, is trying to follow its old route down the valley to the river ,but now has to cross a road and get round houses surprised
