When we got waylaid in our local town by our own energy company, then advising us that we should have a smart meter fitted ,I said that if they could give me a guarantee in writing  that it would still work if we changed supplier ,"I did not get that assurance" so we are now  going to stick with what we have until such times as they cansurprised

The engineer assured us this new meter reader would work if we changed supplier, our old one wouldn't,  they have improved them over the years.

We are going tomorrow to pick up our little day van that we have bought recently. Hoping to be home early then take it out a drive in the afternoon. Also got to empty the caravan as it is going for its first service next week hoping it passes with no issues. Very wet and windy here today lots of fireworks going off too

Hope you are happy with your day van Francis,  sounds like you will have the best of both worlds smile

Bit grey and drizzly today cry

Enjoyed a lovely evening out at local pub with our eldest son last night, good to catch up with all his news .

Finally got around to booking a CL to visit Wicken Fen next spring,  I've wanted to go to Wicken for ages.

Our latest tariff is smart meter based. We don't have a smart meter 😲.  OH is adamant we won't and told them so at the outset, call handler agreed and we've not been trouble since.

No objection if it will work regardless of supplier.  Our daughter in NZ has had them for gas and electric for the 11 years she's been there. Monthly bill fixed or variable if you want, all done by smart meter and paperless. So it does and can working with your mum TDA by themselves they do nothing except use electric 😂😂. That advert saying saves enough to.......... drives me to distraction, unless you switch things off, not standby which seems to be the norm these days, there is no saving. Like all things we are at the mercy of the designers and suppliers of equipment to be able to turn things off completely. As a child we never left the house without all sockets being in the off position. Lights an exception in the darker months!

Just returned home from shopping in local arcade, all I heard was Christmas music banging out from various department stores !.Feel sorry for staff , must be driving them nuts .I love Christmas time but its only 4th November for goodness sake.🎄🎄.Bah humbug.😁.

Have rejected "smart" too. I found fuel monitors were useful, even if it meant just looking at it and turning something off to see what happened. wink The novelty wears off but the bills still keep rising despite our best efforts.

Francis, I hope you enjoy your van, nice for local trips.

Helen, you have reminded me about next year, I'd like to go to the Burnham CL. I'm just packing to go to the Lakes, it has been very quiet here with son and grandson gone, I can't quite believe its happened, we are hoping they get their new house keys tomorrow. The present owners have taken everything to the wire, exchange repeatedly delayed until the end of last week.

OH is out fishing, it's damp and miserable, I'm glad to be in the warm.

Too true Trellis, I am hating the adverts on TV, especially before Remembrance Sunday, it's ridiculous. They must be desperate for our cash..frown

Agree Trellis , really wish the shops would wait to start Christmas until  mid November at the earliest!

We had smart meters fitted years ago, and they have cut our bills down quite a bit. On our new reader we can set a budget too.

Brue, hope you have a lovely time in the Lakes.

OH has taken himself off into the garage, I am stocking up my  kindle with books and doing a bit of research for next year's holidays smile

H&T , apologies if this is a dumb question ,but you mention setting a budget on your smart meter .What happens if you exceed it ? , does the power go off?😂,or does some sort of warning sound .
