Instead of God Save the Queen , it's being put to parliament today / tomorrow that the English sporting teams should have there own anthem for when they are competing  the nations ect  , Jerusalem appears to be the favourite

personally I don't see a problem Scotland Ireland and Wales have there's so why not England

Good idea - but which anthem shall we have?

Abide with me.

Jerusalem.

You'll never walk alone again.

A brand new commissioned one.

Or one of many others?

There is nothing wrong with our current one!

God save the Queen!

As a Welsh person, I suppose some might say that I am not qualified to comment!  Laughing  But I think that "God Save the Queen" is a British anthem more than 'English' and I think that England deserve one that they can all their own.  " I feel that "Jerusalem" would be the best choice...nice and rousing! Smile

Elgar - Land of hope and glory. In fact it would be better than our current national anthem.

Yes I totally agree , for some reason thought it already was , but never used ...

I think we should be more English and make more of a fuss on St George's day etc - so why not an English Anthem too.  Land of Hope and Glory is great - would settle for You'll Never walk alone too.

Write your comments here...exactly right taffy.  It's British. and that's why thay are putting it foward that the English should have their  own , and according to the article Jerusalem is top of the list. Although a great song comes over religious to me imho

the National anthem God Save The Queen would still be used when all teams are joined

As a proud Welshman, when I attend sporting events where Wales are playing England, I sing both Anthems as well as being proud to be Welsh, I am also proud to be British, if there is a change for England to have their own Anthem, my choice would be Land of Hope and Glory, I would sing that too !!
