Exciting News! At Wyatts Covert Club Campsite we’re trialling Smart Metering, which means you will only pay for the amount of electricity you use during your stay.

The price quoted for bookings at this campsite excludes electricity (with campsite fees reduced accordingly) and we will only charge you for the precise amount of electricity you use during your stay.

This is something many members have been asking for and we’re really pleased to be able to trial it this year! Find out more at https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/smartmetering/

Points about the trials is one thing, Brue, but you must have noticed how both threads are speculating when a wait and see approach would likely resolve the questions. Furthermore, both threads have taken on the appearance of being an excuse for having a go at camc. It’s rather repetitive I find.

No I haven't noticed anything like that TW. We've had a lot of previous discussions about metering and the financial and practical impossibility of such things and this is an interesting development for CAMC.

I’m surprised you haven’t noticed the over abundance of speculation.

Yes, I’m well aware of previous discussions and have taken part in many. Good ideas have sometimes been voiced and that’s one reason I say it’s good to see CAMC being forward thinking and trialling new systems.

More or less all the speculation could be removed by the CAMC simply stating what price per Kw hour they will be using. The fact that they can publish a long page of details about the trial without mentioning that is frankly odd.

Some may actually book without realising there is a trial. You have to move on to the second phase of booking, having input party size, vehicle, dates and ETA before it is even mentioned. Even then it is not in bold or anything to draw attention.

Anyone who has already booked before this was announced will have the option to opt out of the trial and pay the stated fee at the time they booked, according to the FAQs.

However, anyone booking after the 5th April for the trial period does not get that choice. I suspect there will be more than the odd booking made without realising it does not include electric.

The point of the OP’s post was I think to inform CT users that a metering trial is to start at Wyatts Covert site with a link to further info which for me did not have the info I would want prior to booking a site metered in this way.  According to FAQ’s the trial starts 17th May 2023 for 1yr

In order to make an informed decision I do prefer to know in advance whom I am signing up with for any online account as I guess there will be T & C’s to agree to and what the cost is to me for the ‘goods’.

In the OP’s link “Trusted Smart Meter Partner” is mentioned “ and I also read this in FAQ’s.  “we will only charge you for the precise amount of electricity you use” which appeared to be referring to CAMC as the “we”.

So to me it is unclear as to whom the online account is with.

I shall check back here and Wyatt Covert reviews after 17 May to see if there is any further info from members – hopefully someone who stays on site will post about the Electricity cost as HO seem reluctant to tell us the price per kilowatt.

We’ve a booking for Wyatts Covert from May 31st - June 3rd. ( FA Cup final) and hopefully won’t need to cancel.
Booked a couple of weeks ago, haven’t had any communication from the Club yet regarding metering,  but no problem with that.
But as we will probably be offsite for most of the days, returning to the ‘van in the evenings, we will probably take up the metering option if available.
