the club need to check the pricing. On searching Treamble Valley the from price was totally different to the cheapest cost which was in October for one person and pitch.

Being a non member how come you have access to this part of the club website?

Posted on 24/12/2018 13:41

Anyone can join the forum, BVM, whether a member or not. Apparently, the idea is to encourage non-members to join the club.

WiFi was expensive at £25. I never used it then so I certainly won't be using it in the future.

Same here, we have a mifi and use that all over Europe. We got sick of trying to connect to the wifi on club sites and then getting kicked out as more folk came on site.

The wifi is too much as we don't frequent the C&MC sites enough to warrant the outlay.

The cost of sites IMO is not justified, I know others think differently but when I can get a site that has a swimming pool, lots of space, in a great location with great weather (yes over there) I will take it every time compared to an over priced C&MC site.

As quoted on a previous page £22.30 for a gravel square, with no views, in winter, no thank you. Our average this year has been 15€ a night and that was in the shoulder seasons. So I would guess a 10€ a night saving  had we stayed in the UK. That works out roughly at 1100€ over the 2 trips we made this year, which more than covers the ferry cost.

Thanks Tinwheeler, I wasn't aware of that, but I am now!

With respect Tammy, fantastic sites over there (with features that I do not particularly want) are damn all use to those of us looking to holiday within the UK.

There is a far lower minimum wage in Spain and  over the last 10 years, far higher unemployment. Just one of the factors leading to lower costs.

I agree David but there are many economic factors in each country. My main point though is that it matters not what is available across the channel for those seeking to caravan within the UK

Whether or not the cost of club sites is justified, the comparison with foreign sites which is so often made, is patently too simplistic. We stay in Europe (not on sites) each year; in the last 3 years fortnights in Croatia, Spain and Italy. We have noticed that accommodation, food shopping, eating out, visitor attractions, public transport and more are all significantly cheaper in those places. So why should the cost of sites be any different?

Try comparing night for night costs on club sites with other commercial outlets  in the same area of the UK and the differences are minimal.

We are actually using CLs more and more having discovered their attractions in the last few years, but if I was looking for a "full facility" site I'd pick a club site (consistent standards) over a commercial every time unless the commercial had been specifically recommended to me.

I'm afraid I don't agree with you there M. I find France very expensive compared to the UK. I'm not sure about Italy as I've not been for a long time, last visit was before the euro. Croatia is probably cheaper again not been other than a day trip from a cruise ship. Spain I don't find it as cheap in the supermarkets as back here either, to eat out is cheaper but we rarely do that.

Why should the costs of sites in the UK be so expensive, the club have wardens on the sites that do all the work. Over there its employed staff to do the cleaning, reception, grounds work etc etc.

I wasn't talking about Spain Alan, I was thinking about France. Their sites are half the price of the UK and yet have more things on them (even if you are not interested)  wages are higher there as is the cost of living and the camping season is much shorter than over here.
