Posted on 16/02/2020 18:58 by SteveLIt was a few years ago but I believe the info re paying came in the confirmation email. Said you had to phone the site and pay with a credit card a week before.

That dings a dong because years back I booked a single night at BHF for our return journey in Blighty. I was on the French Autoroute & received a call from BHF asking for payment .... I really wanted to say I'll pay you in a few hours or in the morning but SWMBO wouldn't let me.

They have been through a few different set ups at BHF over the years.
Used to be that you had to book a ferry pitch if you wanted to be outside the barrier and able to arrive late/leave early, and it was only for one night.
Then they started automatically assigning you a ferry pitch if you booked only a one night stop, whether you wanted/needed one or not. We then started always booking at least 2 nights so we would not be woken by inconsiderate travellers in the middle of the night.
I think they did stop that eventually after complaints, and went back to having to book a ferry pitch if you needed one
Then they brought in having to pay before arrival for a ferry pitch, which was reasonable, but then started making advance payment compulsory for any one night booking .
We have not been there for a few years, so no idea what the regime is now if you want a one night stay but are not taking a ferry.

They treat ferry arrivals, as ferry is usually evening docking, at Rookesbury Park just the same as late arrivals, that is you see the warden in the morning. Nicer area than usual LA. Prefer to use reasonable CL nearby for the one night. Easier drive than to RP in the dark, plus a darn sight cheaper.
