No News Yet on the New Booking System

I noticed in the latest magazine there is an article on potential changes to the site booking system. I am sure we had a similar article a couple of months ago? Although there seems a commitment to being able to book a pitch type they are less than clear on other changes such as deposits. Apparently they are still considering it and looking closely at member feedback, including Club Together!!! I suppose we should be encouraged that they are taking note of what is said on this forum? I could be wrong but there seems a sort on consensus on CT that probably its coming to the point where deposits might be the way forward, some more reluctant than others maybe? Obviously many would want to see the small print perhaps before accepting it as a way forward. A decision may well have been made but it seems that it could be a few more months before full details are made public.

As far as I can recall, very young CC members in the 1980’s, you sent a deposit cheque off by post, £5. It was deducted from your overall fee. We never had to cancel, so no idea what happened if you did.

I can’t ever recall being escorted to a pitch by CC wardens though. Mind, our outfit was inspected and we got a full 20 questions interview before they would let two (unmarried) youngsters and a huge Rottweiler, in a strange camper van anywhere near Club hallowed ground🤣 The twitching curtains used to cause quite a draft......

"I can’t ever recall being escorted to a pitch by CC wardens"

I can. Back in the 70s we went as non-members to a CC site in Norfolk and were escorted by a sargeant major type who ensured all vans were pitched in line nose to tail the length of the site and checked the line to make sure no one was a few inches out of kilter.

Is it any wonder we didn’t become members for another 30 years or so?🥺😄

I too can remember being escorted to our pitch by the warden on CC sites. We just thought that it was the norm, at the time, as it also used to happen in Commercial sites then too. Not that we used CC sites very often as it was the time when we used to rally in the main as well as using CLs.

Just been reading it on FB. The notification 'Pingometer' is going mad, there's been 244 replies in 45 minutes.

If it is the group I think it is, I quit it a long time ago. I cannot imagine it is saying anything pro deposit.

Long before and when we joined in the  1960s/until the late 1990s many of this clubs staff both on sites and at head office were ex forces personnel

Several of the regional managers were retired officers and site wardens were non cons the managers at commons Wood was an ex csm ,and he  said that jobs w with the cc were always advertised for them to join

A bit more. Info that not many are aware of the cc was at some point in the past  in a financial tie up with one of the caravan magazine publishers

The group where I read it has had 866 comments since 10pm last night. So far there is a mix of answers but 'against' seems to be the biggest majority.

I've just set up a poll of For and Against (if it gets approval) just to try and get a clearer picture

Peedee

I have not read all the posts, too many as Harry suggests. What always amuses me is that it seems to come as a big surprise to so many? As I pointed out it has been mentioned in the minutes of the last two AGM's. There are a few who agree with the idea but as you say quite a lot of anti's. Mind you when it is announced officially I am sure this forum will be buzzing with outragesmile
