No News Yet on the New Booking System

I noticed in the latest magazine there is an article on potential changes to the site booking system. I am sure we had a similar article a couple of months ago? Although there seems a commitment to being able to book a pitch type they are less than clear on other changes such as deposits. Apparently they are still considering it and looking closely at member feedback, including Club Together!!! I suppose we should be encouraged that they are taking note of what is said on this forum? I could be wrong but there seems a sort on consensus on CT that probably its coming to the point where deposits might be the way forward, some more reluctant than others maybe? Obviously many would want to see the small print perhaps before accepting it as a way forward. A decision may well have been made but it seems that it could be a few more months before full details are made public.

The deposits I mentioned in the last post were in force when they cancelled our Easter outing one year to Malvern site due to waterlogging. Still waiting for the £5. What do you reckon my chances are if I asked for it?smile

One disadvantage of the CCC booking system is the "deposit"of say £25.00 is applicable to only that site.

If you have to change your plans suddenly, say major traffic jam,or family illness, and have to use another site,it causes chaos trying to swap the booking deposit over,to the "new" site.Otherwise the balance will not add up.

We didn't join until 1990 and the £5 deposit was still in force then and for a few years after but they had stopped showing you to your pitch before I joined. I think deposits had stopped within a couple of years, so about 1992/1993.

We joined in 1998, deposits were still required then, and for a few years after that,  maybe up till around 2002?

Apart from time spent on the phone, we didn’t have any major problem when we cancelled Scone in May because of our second covid jab. Used the deposit to book another site for later in the year at the time of cancelling. However, I do believe there is an issue over transfer, if it’s a camping in the forest site. Although we booked one, not tried cancelling any yet.

I originally joined in the mid 80's but my first club site wasn't until 2011 so no recollection of these things. Refunds of deposits wouldn't be required if credit card details were held and payment need only be taken upon arrival or a penalty for 'no shows'. Why make life administratively difficult?

I suppose it would depend how they set things up. Do the club have a secure system on which they hold all our credit card details, like Tesco or Amazon. Or do they use a third party secure site like the C&CC. There each booking is treated as a separate entity. They have your permission to take the deposit there and then and the balance on the day of arrival. I know they are independent bookings, as when I changed my credit card, each one had to be updated separately. It took ages on the phone.☹️

I suppose at some point CAMC will need to dragged, kicking and screaming into the 20th (😉) century....

no doubt, making use of the advances made in the latest one will have to wait a bit longer...

I’d go for the interest as well😂

Mind that flying pig......🤣

I’d sub contract the bookings and payments out to Tesco. They know how to do online retail and logistics.

As far as I can recall, very young CC members in the 1980’s, you sent a deposit cheque off by post, £5. It was deducted from your overall fee. We never had to cancel, so no idea what happened if you did.

I can’t ever recall being escorted to a pitch by CC wardens though. Mind, our outfit was inspected and we got a full 20 questions interview before they would let two (unmarried) youngsters and a huge Rottweiler, in a strange camper van anywhere near Club hallowed ground🤣 The twitching curtains used to cause quite a draft......
