Exploiting the members

Why is it necessary for the club sites to seek excessive profits on  school holidays. My son has booked a pitch at Brecon beacon site for the Easter holidays. Cost per night for 2 adults and 1 child  £37.80 per night. The following week it would have been £ 27.95. What extra costs does the running of the site between the 2 weeks. .Nothing just exploiting the members because of the school holidays. Yet another excuse to make more money from the members when we already pay a membership fee.

Last year we, like many others, had a touring holiday in the UK as an alternative to our usual trip abroad.

Initially we looked only at suitable club sites and then tweaked this due to price, location or a recommendation.

One site was in the lakes at Pooley Bridge as our nephew and family were staying there. Our pitch was OK but that's all and the price, in mid July was £30 a night, which was at the lower end of what we paid.

Looked at the prices yesterday, I had been asked for a recommendation, and this year its £42.

I have not looked at club prices for this year, so cant comment fully on the OP, but a 40% increase seems to be rather a lot!

Agree with all that, it has always been thus with prices, and agree that standard school holidays would be welcome by parents and teachers but it's a little more complicated than one would think. Schools are under the control of LEAs but Academies are not and are very much independent (they don't have to follow the national curriculum for example), past and present governments wanted school to be independent of LEAs and pushed hard with large money incentives for schools to be become academies. A lot of new legislation would be needed and as you say it won't be happening anytime soon.

If that was Hillcroft Park, I had the misfortune to spend a weekend there. I got the impression it attracts large numbers of youngsters in tents and shared pods at the weekend. They proceeded to do what young people like to do - party all day and night into the wee hours. Probably would have loved it 40yrs ago, but I prefer peace and quiet these days. At least that’s unlikely to occur on a CMC site.

Fortunately they are both intelligent enough to understand they must make provision for their old age. I am happy to advise should they wish.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for a more liberal approach to deposits within the 21 day period as it would be widely open to abuse I imagine. Perhaps one concession they might be willing to make is to move the deposit to another booking. I fully appreciate that as we get older our health tends to produce more uncertainties but I am not sure this is the responsibility of the Club? A few years ago we were at the Brecon site and Margaret was taken by ambulance to Abergavenny A&E. In the middle of the night it cost me £40 for a taxi back to the site which is just a cost I had to bear and in a sense in similar circumstances it is the person with the issue that will have to bear the price, not the Club. We will have to wait and see.

Afternoon

JVB, I've mentioned this before somewhere on here I think. There will be a dedicated line of communication for members to discuss with a member of head office staff who think they should get their deposit back. Honestly though, peoples health and well being are surely their own responsibility and not that of the club? Just my opinion.

It is our own responsibility ,and good there will be a dedicated line of communication? But as said before, the 21 day cancellation is ok by us, but the present system without deposits is at this time what attracts many older members as the recent post and us  ,,,was the USP that this club had over and above most other pitch providors,in the UK,

We're all in the same boat, JV, and it’s no good beating ourselves up about what was but is no more.

I don’t believe the club should make special arrangements to pander to older people and the new booking terms, as far as known, are much more generous than most holiday providers. It’s for each of us to work with and around the T&Cs and, as I’ve said many times over the years, not for the club to adjust to an individual's personal circumstances. As you said yourself, it is our own responsibility so now we must go with the flow.
