Anybody received this yet?

"We look forward to welcoming you shortly on our UK Club campsites.

Ahead of your arrival, we wanted to give you advance notice that we’ll be making a small increase to our UK Club campsite prices for stays between 5 April 2022 and 3 January 2023 inclusive.

The unfortunate and sad events which have engulfed the world in recent weeks have meant worldwide electricity costs have increased exponentially. In fact the Club's electricity costs are forecast to increase by an unprecedented amount of around 50% this year.

The fairest way for the Club to manage the rising cost of energy required to run our UK Club campsites is for all members to pay a little bit extra when staying with us this year. This small price increase will support the Club in the face of the rising cost of energy and also help ensure that we can continue to reinvest in improving the UK Club campsite network.

What this means for you:

The increase will be between 70p and £2.50 per night depending on the season and the campsite you are planning to stay on. These calculations are based on a standard touring pitch and two adults.
From 5 April 2022 you’ll be able to see the exact new price you’ll pay by logging into ‘My profile’ and clicking on the ‘My UK Sites Bookings’ section.

There’s no need for you to do anything, on arrival at the campsite you will be charged the appropriate amount.

We appreciate this price increase will not be welcomed, however we would like to share that members have saved over £12.5 million on stays at our UK Club campsite network since July 2020, as the Club passed on the full Government VAT rate saving to members.

We need your support to ensure our wonderful Club can continue to operate all of our amazing campsites at the same high standards during the busy summer season and into the winter, when we expect utility costs to rise further.

What can you do to help:

Below are a few hints and tips to help reduce the cost of electricity usage when you are staying on one of our campsites.

If you have a solar unit on your outfit please use it as much as possible
Make sure indoor and outside lights, any heating appliances and electrical equipment are all turned off when you go out for the day and overnight
We want members to enjoy many holidays with the Club this year, so thank you for your continued loyalty and support, and we wish you an enjoyable 2022 season of touring.

Best wishes
The Caravan and Motorhome Club"

I can categorically state that every CAMC member has NOT received information regarding the price increase.

I quite agree in the days of real business that would have been the norm but it very rarely applies in todays climate when it comes to dealing with modern day accounting  policies

Posted on 01/04/2022 20:30

Would you like  to expand on that JVB?! wink All businesses need to cover costs or they will fail. As far as CAMC is concerned it is a not for profit business but in reality they have to make profits to re-invest in the business to keep it viable and afloat. Every single UK business is faced with increasing costs. Obviously we don't know how the rise in site fees was calculated but we'd soon complain if we started to see sites closing which they could if they become too expensive to operate.

A little bit off topic but on the subject of charging for electricity usage perhaps the club could slowly move to metered electric by putting in meters firstly on seasonal pitches, and see how that works. There are many sites that offer seasonal pitches but only a relatively few in number on each site, so the cost of installation would be relatively low. I appreciate that this would necessitate a couple of changes, in that the seasonal pitches would have to be selected before hand by the club to facilitate the fitting of meters on those pitches, and then a pro rata reduction in the seasonal pitch price to match that charged for a non-EHU pitch. Should not all the seasonal pitches available be booked then those members who would like the choice of a metered pitch could use them.sealed

Do you have any bookings?

Maybe they are concentrating on those who do.

I have and have had the message.

Posted on 01/04/2022 20:36

Not with this club which I assume is the reason I’ve not had the mail. However, I and others could book this very evening and not know of the impending increase.

Surely everyone should have been made aware by now? Mails begging for our support during lockdown found their way to everyone within the space of just a few days but not so the news on price rises.🤷🏻‍♂️

Me neither, perhaps because we've used up all our CC site bookings for the year on our current trip.😄

I find these prices for a "bucket" of dish water amazing and avoid such places (unless we want to use their facilitieswink). I have a Nespresso machine in the van and get a quality espresso for about 35 pencesmile

David, don’t knock it, it’s a decent cup of proper coffee, surprisingly so.

The club has a web site and all this type of information could be posted on it.

Posted on 01/04/2022 20:41

Neither the website nor communication skills are strong points of this club.

"Has all this happened? I would say yes so I'd say the club is honouring it's agreement to the letter"

Corners I've copied a part of your post. The club hasn't done anything yet. It has indicated that prices are rising, whether every CAMC member has received this information remains unknown. The new prices are due to appear on April 5th, until then none of us know any further details. See the original post from Jill.

Well I would say personally that it has and they have fully complied with their T&Cs and given anyone enough information to decide what to do.

I have received the email so it has informed me about price rise (at worst £2.70) and while I can't speak for anyone else it would appear that it has for a number of others?

They haven't given me the option to cancel (option b) agreed but under existing rules I consider that unnecessary as I can now cancel now if I wish (I personally won't) and it would currently still be more than the 'three days'.

And even then they could be following option c:

c) where the revised indicative price is higher or less than the price stated at the time of booking we may leave your booking unchanged.

I assume this option leaves it up to you to decide what to do?

So yes I do think the club has followed its T&C. Others may disagree and may want to wait to see which sites and prices are affected and that's their choice,

Also notice the T&C's state In such circumstances, the following may apply:

I concede that statement appears far too loose and option c may appear to be a 'get out of jail card' and doesn't require the club to do anything about offering the option to cancel when they raise prices but they are both there and anyone booking has agreed to be bound by them.

A numbers of posts appear to have made their minds up one way or the other.
