Anybody received this yet?

"We look forward to welcoming you shortly on our UK Club campsites.

Ahead of your arrival, we wanted to give you advance notice that we’ll be making a small increase to our UK Club campsite prices for stays between 5 April 2022 and 3 January 2023 inclusive.

The unfortunate and sad events which have engulfed the world in recent weeks have meant worldwide electricity costs have increased exponentially. In fact the Club's electricity costs are forecast to increase by an unprecedented amount of around 50% this year.

The fairest way for the Club to manage the rising cost of energy required to run our UK Club campsites is for all members to pay a little bit extra when staying with us this year. This small price increase will support the Club in the face of the rising cost of energy and also help ensure that we can continue to reinvest in improving the UK Club campsite network.

What this means for you:

The increase will be between 70p and £2.50 per night depending on the season and the campsite you are planning to stay on. These calculations are based on a standard touring pitch and two adults.
From 5 April 2022 you’ll be able to see the exact new price you’ll pay by logging into ‘My profile’ and clicking on the ‘My UK Sites Bookings’ section.

There’s no need for you to do anything, on arrival at the campsite you will be charged the appropriate amount.

We appreciate this price increase will not be welcomed, however we would like to share that members have saved over £12.5 million on stays at our UK Club campsite network since July 2020, as the Club passed on the full Government VAT rate saving to members.

We need your support to ensure our wonderful Club can continue to operate all of our amazing campsites at the same high standards during the busy summer season and into the winter, when we expect utility costs to rise further.

What can you do to help:

Below are a few hints and tips to help reduce the cost of electricity usage when you are staying on one of our campsites.

If you have a solar unit on your outfit please use it as much as possible
Make sure indoor and outside lights, any heating appliances and electrical equipment are all turned off when you go out for the day and overnight
We want members to enjoy many holidays with the Club this year, so thank you for your continued loyalty and support, and we wish you an enjoyable 2022 season of touring.

Best wishes
The Caravan and Motorhome Club"

Electricity costs now have a cap Apl- Oct so the Club should offer a flat rate increase per night across all UK sites throughout that period to make it fair to all members.

Personally I don’t think a flat rate would be fair. Surely the reason for the surcharge is to cover the extra cost of electricity used. That is likely to be higher in April and October and lower July / August, simply due to the increased use of heating in the colder months. Therefore whilst a £2,50 surcharge might be appropriate for April and October, lesser amounts should be charged in the warmer months.

The add charge no matter what site should be the same for all sites with a seasonal adjustment to compensate for the extra use in colder months

Or a reason for different site charges

I cannot answer your question - none of us can. As I said before, we'll have to wait and see what the nitty gritty detail is.

I’m wondering if the leisure industry will head the same direction as is projected for Domestic consumers-x3 to potentially x4 increases April then October🤷🏻‍♂️😳

Could be, Rocky. We might see energy surcharges applied to bookings for cottages, statics and so on. They'll all have relevant clauses in their terms to protect themselves.

Geez TW, it’s gonna be a bumpy road ahead What with fuel, energy which both affects generally everything rocketing up industry will then shift the burden to an already squeezed consumer. Rough times ahead don’t even begin to cover it☹️😞

I do seriously wonder if vanning will take a hit. Prices of LVs are bound to increase and site fees across the board. Then there's the cost of fuel.....🙁

Quoting a phrase from peedee's post upthread:

"If the C&CC increase their prices it will not be so visible ...."

Quite. At least with this Club you know the prices.

The C&CC simply gives a "from" price. There used to be a "to" price as well, but no longer. This morning I priced up a stay on one C&CC site. The cost was £4.00 more per night than the estimate I'd made based on the "from" price. If that is to cover the rising fuel prices it is not transparent.

The price leaflet which the C&CC supplies is pretty meaningless in the context of planning a trip. You have to make  a succession of "dummy bookings" to arrive at the true cost. And, even then, the price can alter in the time between doing some research and making a booking.

Posted on 01/04/2022 13:56

Last year I had a conversation with  C&CC staff member about their new price 'from' but  not 'to' anymore.

It was explained to me that the pricing is now on a sliding scale, ie book early and you will/could pay the 'from' price. Book last minute and you will pay a greater amount, all down to availability.

I don't particularly like that but others in the holiday business do similar.

It means if you are on site and wish to change to a different pitch type or extend your stay, this is then treated as a late booking at the inflated price.

As the C&CC are usually cheaper anyway than CAMC I can live with it. Doesn't mean to say I like it.

Nice to see you posting again IanH

I guess the CAMC have a lot more overheads than smaller sites. At least that would be their response.

I mentioned earlier that the basic CL we are going to has increased their price from £12 to £15 a night purely to cover the cost of electricity, so £3 a night increase on a 5 van site compared to 70p to £2.50 on a CAMC site. Seems the CAMC isn't so bad after all. 🤔🤔
