Anybody received this yet?

"We look forward to welcoming you shortly on our UK Club campsites.

Ahead of your arrival, we wanted to give you advance notice that we’ll be making a small increase to our UK Club campsite prices for stays between 5 April 2022 and 3 January 2023 inclusive.

The unfortunate and sad events which have engulfed the world in recent weeks have meant worldwide electricity costs have increased exponentially. In fact the Club's electricity costs are forecast to increase by an unprecedented amount of around 50% this year.

The fairest way for the Club to manage the rising cost of energy required to run our UK Club campsites is for all members to pay a little bit extra when staying with us this year. This small price increase will support the Club in the face of the rising cost of energy and also help ensure that we can continue to reinvest in improving the UK Club campsite network.

What this means for you:

The increase will be between 70p and £2.50 per night depending on the season and the campsite you are planning to stay on. These calculations are based on a standard touring pitch and two adults.
From 5 April 2022 you’ll be able to see the exact new price you’ll pay by logging into ‘My profile’ and clicking on the ‘My UK Sites Bookings’ section.

There’s no need for you to do anything, on arrival at the campsite you will be charged the appropriate amount.

We appreciate this price increase will not be welcomed, however we would like to share that members have saved over £12.5 million on stays at our UK Club campsite network since July 2020, as the Club passed on the full Government VAT rate saving to members.

We need your support to ensure our wonderful Club can continue to operate all of our amazing campsites at the same high standards during the busy summer season and into the winter, when we expect utility costs to rise further.

What can you do to help:

Below are a few hints and tips to help reduce the cost of electricity usage when you are staying on one of our campsites.

If you have a solar unit on your outfit please use it as much as possible
Make sure indoor and outside lights, any heating appliances and electrical equipment are all turned off when you go out for the day and overnight
We want members to enjoy many holidays with the Club this year, so thank you for your continued loyalty and support, and we wish you an enjoyable 2022 season of touring.

Best wishes
The Caravan and Motorhome Club"

"As I pay the asking price"....

nere in a nutshell is the situation we have on CC sites....I've paid for it therefore I'll use it....usage goes up, costs rise, prices to match...

and here we are, with prices soaring....

what do we get....I've paid (more) for it so I'll use (more of) it...😉

that should sort it.

but any suggestion of getting control of this spiral is Pooh poohed by 'unrecoverable costs', even though total usage would fall dramatically, either by folk being reined in by metering or opting out of usage completely...

Rome is certainly burning, with André Reiu at the helm😉

 Pooh poohed...

BB while you may not agree with other's view is there any reason to label them as such? But of course you labeling it as such does not make not it in any way true? Or are your views the only true version which must be accepted by all?

See what I did there I poo-poohed the poo-poo smile

but you are also taking things a little out of context .... when Bill says that he's paying for your electric, he wasn't being literal, it was obvious that he meant that we all pay more if you use more. Not picking you out specifically, but there will always be those that will want to use ALL of their share (plus a little bit extra) .... just like if there's a 'free bar' at a party/wedding/etc, there will always be someone that makes sure they get their fair share (plus a bit extra)

Absolutely, the Club needs to call ‘time please’ at the bar and stop topping up some of the guests glasses!

BB

You paint a very easy picture of what it could be like. However its not the full picture especially if you tour in the likes of Germany where metering is quite common and not only in the winter months. On quite a few occasions our departure has been delayed because of waiting for site staff having to release us from the electric point, locked cupboard. I would agree that  paying on arrival for you pitch doubles up on the amount of work but I can't see the Club changing that as in the UK it is almost universal that you either pay on arrival or in advance of arrival.

David I don't think you read/understood my post fully....

I said 'with a decent system'....not one as you've experienced but one as I have where it takes an instant to print and pay for a bill. No unlocking from a bollard, just do it yourself as now, only difference is that a meter ticks away as the juice is used.

paying for the pitch on arrival won't change, and for folk using no electric there won't be a need to pay on departure.

for those using electric, a quick call into the office and settle up, job done.

the main issue is that most commercial or continental sites have someone who is customer facing for the complete opening hours...certainly not true with current club processes.

ah well, let's just all pay the continued increases and have done with helpful suggestions😉

Why would you personally feel 'pooh poohed' by my post?💁

The easiest system, in my view, for both the Club and members is one that uses a smart card which can be common across the network. The only involvement of staff in operating the system would be in charging the card and there would be no need to pay anything on departure

>Rolec< offer such a system.

I wish I could find a past thread about the cost of installing meters. I think, but happy to be proved wrong, that a CL owner posted it would cost around £80 to install one meter, so with a (low) estimate of about 15,000 meters that is £1.2 million, like I said a low estimate and perhaps more with the infrastructure to read and charge people staying.

Where will this money come from? Either from higher pitch fees in the short term or from reserves perhaps taking money away from other projects or refurbishments.

We looked at a Club Site yesterday, for a midweek short break. Bear in mind it is still March, still lots of attractions, places to visit not yet fully open, and it’s cold up here in Yorkshire. Club want £28.50 per night. I have found a nice new small private site, with loos and showers for £19 per night. Guess where we are more likely to go? Serviced pitches as well🤷‍♀️

I agree that if any system is brought in then such a system would be good, or even better having it linked to google pay on a phone would be even better.

Any ideas of price?

with the way energy prices are going up, £80 would soon be recovered .... and lets face it £1.2million is a drop in the ocean for the club

I would consider putting smart bollards in as refurbishment though Corners.

The Club spent a not inconsiderable amount on a childrens play area at Ferry Meadows a few years ago. It wasn’t available last week when we were there, as that side of the Site doesn’t open until April🤷‍♀️ Some of the Club’s decision making and expenditure doesn’t always seem to stack up to me at times. There were quite a few children with GP’s staying as well, so I think it would have been used. Mind, Ferry Meadows does have quite a range of child friendly activities not 200 metres from the Club Site, so the actual idea of spending all that money there as opposed to a Site with nothing nearby is another surprising decision🤷‍♀️
