Clachan Arrival Trial.

This link was posted in the General Chat section but I think it would be good repost here as a separate discussion. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/useful-information/arrival-efficiency-trial-at-clachan/

The Club are going to trial the use of ANPR from 24th August at the Clachan site in Scotland to automate arrivals with the likelihood it will be rolled out to more sites if successful. Some of you may have already used commercial sites where ANRP is employed to access a site. All the details are quite extensively covered in the link. Members will have to make sure their registration number is registered when booking and apparently payment will be taken on the morning of arrival.

Why so difficult?  CCP have it cracked. You can come and go as many times as you like within your period of stay.  It's only very basic computer programming.

Just had a look, and it’s a bit more complicated with a caravan, or a second vehicle. https://www.campingcarpark.com/en_GB/faq/category/the-camping-car-park-areas

Great idea. Just not a valid comparison at the moment with a Club Site I don’t think.πŸ€”

Haven't read all 13 pages of thread so apologies if repeating what has already been said.

Only time we have had a problem with ANPR was on a campsite ironically. It was, to be fair, in Germany. Most foreigners stay at this site for just the day as it's a convenient stop just off a main motorway and they are sited in a separate area for quick getaways. The main area had an ANPR controlled barrier and we wanted to stay for 4 nights to explore an area nearby so our car was entered into the system. However, it didn't recognise the plate at all and every time we wanted to enter the site we had to either call into the office, if open, or wait until someone else was entering.

Wonder if this system will recognise foreign plates?

I think they can be programmed to recognise overseas plates. Given how few overseas users we have seen on Club Sites (not CLs, we see lots on these) the problem won’t be a huge one anyway hopefully.πŸ™‚

I asked the same question and a definitive answer wasn't arrived at, some web sources from people who makes these things say not always and maybe not even for non standard UK ones but things are improving all the time.

I didn't know much about this site and certainly didn't know that until this trail that you had to book in at the nearby site then drive over?

So part of me thinks that while this is being billed as a trial, has it been introduced to get round this booking in and drive process? Also from DK's photograph I can't see any barrier there already? Again it may have been done for added security reasons? So maybe the trial is just being added on as another advantage? Which idea came first?

Don't get me wrong I welcome the trial and eventual roll out across all or more sites but that could take some time

I agree with Nav's post and in fact it's what started me thinking. This is a bit remote for a test? A more 'middle of the road' site in terms of location and usage would be a better next step?

The barrier is there but it's difficult to see in such a small photo. As I understand it the entrance into this site also allows access to some cabin type accommodation (don't know if it's anything to do with the Club?) so the entrance barrier is set well back on the site road as it enters the trees. If you can open the picture in a new tab you might just be able to make it out.

That's not the barrier to the Caravan Club site.  It is to the right beside the wooden hut.

Yes, but how does the basic programming know that my pitch is free for an early arrival? My car might not be on it, but my caravan still is. Or can the system be programmed to detect vehicular types as well. Don’t forget in UK caravans bear same plate as tow vehicle? I am not saying it can’t be done, just wondering how.

TDA, It cant be that difficult.

When you wave the card at the post it asks the question, are you (really) leaving?

if not, it opens the gate to let you out (temporarily) and charges your acct up to that point (to stop you running away) and leaves the pitch booking open with you.

if yes, I'm leaving, it opens the gate and charges your acct up to that point and closes your pitch booking leaving it then available to the next customer.
