This link was posted in the General Chat section but I think it would be good repost here as a separate discussion. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/useful-information/arrival-efficiency-trial-at-clachan/

The Club are going to trial the use of ANPR from 24th August at the Clachan site in Scotland to automate arrivals with the likelihood it will be rolled out to more sites if successful. Some of you may have already used commercial sites where ANRP is employed to access a site. All the details are quite extensively covered in the link. Members will have to make sure their registration number is registered when booking and apparently payment will be taken on the morning of arrival.

That's not the barrier to the Caravan Club site.  It is to the right beside the wooden hut.

I assumed that was the way out?  Not sure I have been on a Club site where the exit is after the entrance if you see what I mean. I have never been to this site although I have driven past. I will have to bow to your knowledge on that.

TDA, It cant be that difficult.

When you wave the card at the post it asks the question, are you (really) leaving?

if not, it opens the gate to let you out (temporarily) and charges your acct up to that point (to stop you running away) and leaves the pitch booking open with you.

if yes, I'm leaving, it opens the gate and charges your acct up to that point and closes your pitch booking leaving it then available to the next customer.

it asks the question...

The system is actually voice activated, that is very clever BB?

Yes all very well for that system and those sites abroad but the club already has a system in place for taking the money and it's done before arrival (as really like most large campsites in the UK including your favourite CC ) on the site.

And now with ANPR linked to pre payment I can't see how your system is any better or offers and advantage. You appear to be pushing the other system quite hard for some reason if you're not going to using club sites?

A better idea would to be trial the club's own first before jumping straight to the one you like?

How do you think self service shopping tills work? Or cash dispensers or...

They ask questions, in speech or writing...

im not pushing any system, merely illustrating that ANPR or other recognition system can easily have a simple conversation with a customer and 'could' assist the base APNR towards delivering something closer to the sort of customer experience the club keeps on about.

however, APNR is a start. well done CAMC😁

I've looked on the camping park website and can't see any advantages to what the club does, in fact disadvantages.

For one you have to buy the card before use which the club doesn't, then ensure there are sufficient funds on it by transferring money onto it via the app, or web or phone, before you leave. Again with the club none of that is necessary one can just use a normal bank card in one transaction saving both some time and money, why have two cards for the same process?

In my view it is worse than what the club is offering and in fact looks not as flexible, or the club has more of a modulus of elasticity about it (Hope you saw what I did theresmile)

Haven't read all 13 pages of thread so apologies if repeating what has already been said.

Only time we have had a problem with ANPR was on a campsite ironically. It was, to be fair, in Germany. Most foreigners stay at this site for just the day as it's a convenient stop just off a main motorway and they are sited in a separate area for quick getaways. The main area had an ANPR controlled barrier and we wanted to stay for 4 nights to explore an area nearby so our car was entered into the system. However, it didn't recognise the plate at all and every time we wanted to enter the site we had to either call into the office, if open, or wait until someone else was entering.

Wonder if this system will recognise foreign plates?

So the system isn’t fool proof, there’s one way of circumnavigating the system too it seems, wait for someone else to go through. A ploy used in the past by some, undesirables amongst them, including Wherenext in this case it seems😉

I’m not saying this could or should apply to the club. However, the one big advantage of the CCP system is that the clock starts ticking from when you enter, not from 1pm. As to it being another card, I don’t see that as a problem, you simply charge it up for your holiday, takes minutes to do.

Sounds as if the club has it nailed. I look forward to the reviews.😉

You're making it sound as if the club is somehow lagging behind the rest of UK sites, but is this the case? I don't know? Does the CCC have ANPR? How many non club sites of a comparable size have ANPR, does Concierge Camping, your gold standard site, have it.

Perhaps the club is leading more than you think?
