Bristol Site

Hi everyone,

We wanted to keep you updated of the Club’s plan for a new site in Bristol. The Club bought a site in Clanage Road in 2016 as a replacement for the extremely popular Baltic Wharf campsite because the Club’s landlord, Bristol City Council, had been moving ahead with plans to redevelop the Western Harbour area of Bristol.

We would really like to be able to continue to offer a site in Bristol as we know many of our members love to visit Bristol and have fond memories of staying at Baltic Wharf. It will also have a great economic benefit in the local area with members visiting local attractions, shopping and eating out, as the City is easily accessible on foot and by public transport from the new proposed site. Having a Club Site will also extend the range of accommodation Bristol can offer.

We have resubmitted a planning application for a site on Clanage Road and would love it if any members can help this application by contacting Bristol City Council in support of the proposed new Club Site.

For more information on how to support a planning application visit: https://www.bristol.gov.uk/planning-and-building-regulations/comment-on-a-planning-application or alternatively you can email the Council your thoughts: development.management@bristol.gov.uk

We would be very grateful for your support in this matter and thank you in advance for your help. Support from members could well help to secure a positive outcome. In the meantime members will still be able to stay at Baltic Wharf Club Site in Bristol up until the end of the year.

We will keep you posted on developments and wish you a very happy touring season ahead.

A poky little triangle, with as many pitches as could be squeezed in, but no amenities other than the standard toilet block. Is this the best this Club can do ?

Have they considered what they will do when Bristol city council bans diesel vehicles on environmental grounds and this little patch becomes inaccessible? Have they thought of sites close to public transport further out?

Have they looked at city sites in other countries- like Amsterdam, Strasbourg , Lyon and Nantes to see how other cities do it?

This looks hopeless to me.

If Bristol City council were a bit more helpfull? as it seems other countries are towards tourists

,   The original idea was to have a new site in Ashton court park but there was (so i understand) Nimby complaints that the city was "reluctant?" to ignore(i wonder who lived near?)

When the old police training school was put on the market the club bought it as was not likely to have opposition from the area

The first planning application was rejected ,so i would think the latest aplication h as been submited and updated to take in the original rejection reasons

As Rowena states if the application gets positive support from any one including those who want and have visited Bristol it may help

There  was it seems  a lot of opposed letters to The city council ,when Baltic Wharf was first advised of closure (to build in the councils words a ""much needed primary school?"

When the 4 grass pitches are in use, they will certainly have squeezed in as many pitches as possible.

The fact that it is a non awning site will certainly upset some.

It’s characteristic of many city sites found in Europe now. Space is always at a premium in urban locations so what you get by necessity is an ‘aire’ type situation. Strasbourg has already been mentioned, you could include Lisbon, Bilbao, Bruges & Florence etc, all similar. Probably best suited to motorhome stopovers, rather than putting up the awning for a week or so.  We’re lucky with Crystal Palace, Abbey Wood, York etc, but they’re far from typical these days.

It is very true what you have posted as far as city sites are concerned Rowntree park is not "roomy"

,Also as most know the price of the ground they are on is also at a premium compared to most othe places

Lets just hope this time the city council planning dept are less blinkered ,when looking at the application,  and also realise the value that LV visitors bring

And as Rowena has posted the more supprt the application gets the better it is ,, folllowing the link was  easy to find the application

Beat me to it SB although I was going to suggest if the application failed the Club resubmitted an application for an aire.wink

I've looked at most of the planning documents and the responses, the latter mainly seem to be made by jobsworth who have to justify their existence. Neighbours are at the very least neutral to supportive and the Club has plenty of experience of dealing with sites that flood. Nobody has drowned yet, perhpas that could be emphasised a bit more..

My one concern is the objections from the Transport Development body about the sightings for entry and exit from the site. It is a busy main road and they don't accept the Club's viewpoint. Seems to me an independant viewpoint on that one is required. Think I would be a little concerned about it as well without actually standing at the entrance and making a judgement. 142 meters visibility doesn't seem enough on a road where the majority of traffic is noted as speeding, otherwise looks a very good location for access to Bristol.

I hope the Club is sucessful.

I would like to support it.

Has anyone read through the comments procedure to see if Emailing a comment is different to an online comment, in as much as not having your full name and address open to public view?

I have but still unclear if Emailing to: development.management@bristol.gov.uk is the better option for privacy.

What other facilities would you want ET?  Swimming pool,, 10 pin bowling, restaurant?  All those things you have likely said you do not want or need in other posts?

I think the great thing about BW was the location right in town so I guess they are trying to replicate the same so once on site people do not need to use transport to get into town and can walk or cycle?

When we were at Baltic wharf last ,we walked to where the training college had been ,and do not remeber the road to be "busy",although some vehicles were not "hanging about" a speed camera could assist with thatwink ,

An aire? would that make any diference? surprised
