Bladon Chains - another lost site?

What is going on? A planning application has been submitted for the demolition of the Club's site and for the erection of lodges to take its place!.

Check it out >here< on the West Oxfordshire Council site. Anyone got anymore information, does that mean the end of a site for Blenheim Palace and Woodstock or is the reason for the popup site?

Many it seems who want more sites on "home turf" is to enable a weekend away from work within easy driving distance  ,as some have posted on CT before

our "home turf site" has  been since the early 1980s FM as it is just over the hour from our storage sitecool

The sites in Cornwall are for the 6 week hotspotssurprised

Don’t forget that Cornwall is home turf for some of us so no different to anywhere else in the country in that respect.

We have local weekenders too. Probably more than you realise.

However, I'm with Euro in that I’d rather see more sites elsewhere. It all depends on your starting point and where 'home turf' is.

I think that is what some are wanting reading some posts ,cornwall as i posted having a "proliferation" of sites is because it is a "hotspot" for  short periods as is Devon and Yorkshire (longer periods)

Essex and Suffolk two examples  have been quite a NIMBY hotspots for touring sites

Agree areas without Sites should come first, particularly round areas that have huge interest like Hadrians Wall, Central Wales.

Don’t forget Yorkshire is very big, all the sites are clumped up in either East coast or Dales area, these are a decent two hours from home for us on edge of South Yorks. Why the Club needs two in Scarborough and another in Bridlington seems strange to me, as does the Cromer, Incleborough, Fakenham Triangle, although I know all those mentioned are popular.

You implied that Cornwall is only a 6 week hotspot, not that it has the number of sites it has due to being popular. Thus, I was pointing out it also has a fair weekend trade.

I know that areas such as Suffolk and Essex have a dearth of sites but I’m not sure it's due to Nimbyism.

It raises the question of whether the sites proliferate in those areas due to their popularity or whether people are attracted there by the number of sites. Chicken and egg. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't pack my pyjamas unless I'm  going well over a hundred miles from home. I can't recall the independent sites we used in Suffolk but they were fine, and I still think some people are far too tied to Club sites and CLs.

We weekended in Cornwall for several years when we lived just across the river but it sure wasn’t on club sites. Instead, a delightful privately owned site allowed us to store the van there, arrive when we wanted, leave when we wanted and pay on the way out. All for around 50% of club site fees.

However, Bladon Chains..... I much preferred Burford but it's a shame to see any site go.

I think the gaps are just so stark nowadays because the Club have lost so many in the last thirty years. But others fill most of the gaps for us luckily. East Coast of Yorkshire has always been a caravan Mecca, lots of folks from around us have statics up there. For us it’s ok for a day trip, but we prefer somewhere else. I am tainted by childhood trips up there, great for a child, nice for a day’s history top up, but couldn’t do a week😂

There probably aren't any objections to "travellers" staying on motorhome stopovers providing they obey the rules. Certainly I would have no objections. Height barriers only serve to discourage the tourist pound. If authorities don't want the money then by all means put up the no overnight parking signs and height barriers and the law abiding motorhome owner will simply go elsewhere where they are more welcome.

The authorities have a choice as do the motorhome owners

I think the authorities made their choice a good while ago peedee and I don't think that will change anytime soon.

Anyone who owns or works at anywhere that has provision for LV parking and has experienced "disruption" would heartily agree.

(been there done that!!)
