Am I an outdated fuddy duddy?

Good afternoon Campers.

I have been camping in tents, a caravan and more recently a campervan for the last 50 years. I was taught and have always believed that it is rude to walk across or through other people's pitches. This weekend, we are staying at Henley Four Oaks and we have recently stayed at Cirencester, Tewkesbury and Moreton-in-Marsh.

I am somewhat saddened that in all cases, people have walked right through our pitches, within feet of our van, to take a shortcut to wherever they are off to.

 People are close enough to peer in through our windows.

Am I right in thinking this is rude and inconsiderate behaviour? Or am I just being old-fashioned in these enlightened times?

We learned to choose our pitch (as much as possible) wisely years ago. I don’t do folks using pitches as walk throughs or shortcuts merely because they are lazy, but will happily pass the time of day with anyone who stops to say hello. A dog or two pegged out and us sat alongside has usually kept unwanted encroachment at a minimum in the past on Club Sites, so it hasn’t really been something we have encountered. You don’t tend to get such behaviour on CLs, as there’s generally a lot more space.

From the Clubs site rules;

f. Guests are asked to respect other guests' privacy at all times. For example, do not cut across or behind occupied pitches.

Ah, you saw my earlier post.

Whatever your view of pitch crossing, if rules are not enforced and not followed, there is no point in having them. There might just as well be a polite request as a rule.🤷‍♂️

Society, in all it’s shapes and forms, can have whatever rules, regulations, polite requests, etc…. It likes. But if there’s no enforcement, staffing, monitoring, follow up, then they simple aren’t worth the effort of writing.

Respect, doing the right thing, being fair, taking responsibility………….I sadly cannot think of a single entity, large or small, major or minor that hasn’t been found wanting in my lifetime, and it’s now the worst it’s ever been.

Its got nothing to do with friendliness or unfriendlyness. Whether you're from Yorkshire or any other part of the country. Its about having a bit of privacy on your own pitch.

It’s also to do with a persons outlook, temperament & humour-that is why I posted these-’😂😂’ in a prominent position to show my answer was based on the humour not fact👍🏻

True👍🏻, it also says no annoying parties late into the night, no fires, Smokey BBQ’s, ball games near units. They are there to see every time a site is used🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, not literally the same page here🤣🤣

I'm not sure we're totally like minded as I'm accepting of polite pitch crossing but not of the ignorant barging in type I described before.

I can't say that I have ever experienced any of those to the point where they have caused a nuisance. I had to ask someone to stop his dog continually barking once, but thats it. I was polite, and he was gracious.
