Types of CLs

They come in all sorts of guises but which do you prefer?  My preference is for rural perhaps farm sites.  I don't want toilets and showers or even electric hook up.  I like them clean and most importantly, dog poo free.  Due to my low maintenance list, I also like them cheap.  What's your bag?

Whoa there AD, 'Stalking' is a very big & nasty accusation to bandy about without proof. If you truly think I've done that then you should report me, in fact I'd like you to do just that. I can't remember the last time I posted to you. Another tip-check out the meaning of 'Stalker' in a dictionary, you seem to be confused.

You assumed wrong, my post was regarding the similarity of sites & how they look to each person. I then followed it up with a further post to even the balance to ensure it was fair to you-that is not the actions of a Stalker or someone intending to be personal.

Hey come on guys, - it was bad enough when TW and I were having a go at each other.  No one's perfect and I doubt if either of you were intending to upset the other.

I'm fed up with the rain too!Laughing

N1805  I do agree that under some circumstances such as you describe hardstandings can be of assistance to the owner in preserving his/her ground.  I have stayed on some very wet sites where even moving the caravan on the mover has caused the jockey wheel to dig a deep furrow.  So in those circumstances very definately yes.

What I have been trying to emphasise is that the rural/natural ambience of CLs needs to be preserved, faciliating the ability to park any which way you want, and not resulting in the regimentation that is so evident on club sites today.

TF

But surely TF, that doesn't preclude the use of H/S, does it. It all depends on the way that the whole site is set out. Some all grass sites can be just as regimented as ones with H/S!

Nellie,  Once again I'm not going to die in a ditch over this one. I have said time after time my only concern is the preservation of the essentially rural ambiance of the CL. Now if you really want that to include hardstandings, EHU's showers, toilet blocks, christmas lights etc etc, I will happily leave that one to you. Luckily there are plenty of other CL's that I can use if I am not happy with the sort that you want.

Surely the main point of this organisation is that it can cater for a varity of tasts. I do not now, and actually never have, demanded that members agree with me. This is and must remain a matter of personal taste and preferences. I want it quiet, rural and unspoilt. If you want it different that's fine, I'm sure that we can all cope with both styles!

Just returned from Barleywood, motorhome and tag axle on the site at the same time as us and not a hardstanding in sight.  IMO I think hardstandings would spoil the visual panorama of this particular site.  I suppose that it pretty much depends on the how the site sits in the landscape whether HS appropriate or not!

I am an avid CL user and have found the only thing they have in common is that they should only accept 5 units and provide a chemical/waste disposal point. All other facilities and options can vary quite widely. I do not know the actual % of sites with showers, toilets or hard-standings but I do know that those of you who prefer a basic site are well catered for because when I search for a site in my chosen area using the CC map, there are only a small number of sites with the toilet symbol and even fewer have a shower.

It has been suggested that wanting too many facilities on CLs will be their downfall but I think that members not using them will seal their fate. The large commercial sites have been offering large discounts in “off peak” months that have tempted some members away from CLs. These type of site are not for me, I prefer the quieter 5 unit sites but each to his own.Smile

TF, we do not want all sing, all dancing CL's, but we do like EHU all year round, & H/S during the winter months. If you look at my reviews you will see that we use all types of sites, and the vast majority of them have what you call rural ambience.

If only that was the case! More and more are allowing more than 5 vans on their sites, unfortunately.
