Types of CLs

They come in all sorts of guises but which do you prefer?  My preference is for rural perhaps farm sites.  I don't want toilets and showers or even electric hook up.  I like them clean and most importantly, dog poo free.  Due to my low maintenance list, I also like them cheap.  What's your bag?

I think the point TF was trying to make is that CLs have a different ambience ....

I never found a CL which had any sort of ambience at all. Just bits of fields, aren't they?

Well they certainly have a lot more "ambience" than the car park caravan sites that seem to be the order of things these days. Meaning of Ambience:- the character of a place....Cambridge Dictionary     or   The character and atmosphere of a place.....Oxford Dictionary

Who would have thought that the humble CL could cause so much controversy and apparent division of opinion? Voicing an opinion of your preferences for a CL is just that an opinion, it is not a blueprint for all CLs. This thread proves once more that we all have different priorities when choosing a CL and thank goodness at the moment we can all be accommodated.Smile

Long may the CLs remain, with all their diversity.Smile

Has anyone considered that hard standings may have been put in for the site owners convenience? It's not fun for anyone when a vehicle or caravan gets stuck in soft ground. Breakdown vehicles that are called to tow the unit out cause even more damage. Perhaps it's worth the money installing hard standings to make it more stress free for the site owner.Laughing

An interesting way of looking at the possible need for hardstandings.

N1805  I do agree that under some circumstances such as you describe hardstandings can be of assistance to the owner in preserving his/her ground.  I have stayed on some very wet sites where even moving the caravan on the mover has caused the jockey wheel to dig a deep furrow.  So in those circumstances very definately yes.

What I have been trying to emphasise is that the rural/natural ambience of CLs needs to be preserved, faciliating the ability to park any which way you want, and not resulting in the regimentation that is so evident on club sites today.

The CL network is the reason that many Customers pay a subscription fee to the CC Leisure Industry.

Cl's are a private enterprise and a small part of the owners business.   CL's offer caravanners an area where they can pitch up while they tour the area around. - within a rural environment . They are NOT and were never meant to be all singing all dancing caravan parks, thats not their purpose.

That some people dont like this, is a matter of personal choice. Lets keep CLs as they are. If people want vans all perfectly lined up in rows. Public Lavatories and Showers, made up tarmac roads, large areas of unsightly gravel and all the other bling, which it seems some people cannot do without, they can have that in huge numbers by using any one of the hundreds of Caravan Parks.

Cheers ...........K

AD, I remember you showing us some photos of camp sites overseas & they were lined up cheek by jowl. Others have posted the same. I guess it's not really much different over there, choice is the best weapon. Same with the EHU/Showers/Toilets on CL's no 'one size fits all' I've stopped at CL's that were all singing/all dancing in remote locations. Different strokes etc, we all view things differentlyHappy
