Increase size of CLs?

Why Are CLs only allowed 5 vans, is it the government, local councils? If so perhaps the Club could lobby for an increase.

Isn't it time CLs were given permission to have more than 5 vans, many do anyway unofficially!

Perhaps it could be allowed to double to 10 vans, but only if they had a certain acreage?

I wouldn't like to see them over stuffed with vans but it would help both caraanners have more choice and scope and perhaps make it more financialily viable for owners.

The CL we are currently staying on has 9 units . I have spoken to the owners who were quite surprised by my concern. We explained they were breaking the rules , their response was other CL 's did it and the site was big enough anyway ! 18 adults using 1 toilet/ shower. The owner offered to refund us if we wanted to leave!

mottleycrew- whats the betting it will be a closed CL in  the mag son as he goes commercial, usng the 9 units on site to boost his application. If no local objection will be nodded through.

Please report this to, CLResponse@caravanclub.co.uk or name the Cl so that those of us that appreciate the 5 van CL system can avoid it.

5 vans is fine but with the burgeoning number of caravanners, I can see the argument that the OP is putting forward. Just one more space on small CLs and two or three on larger ones would ease folks booking worries. Yes, by acreage would be a useful yardstick  Some of course couldn't take more than 5 vans but many could.

Exactly. The most sensible way to solve a growing problem. EV

Without a change to law of the land (which is very unlikely and would be opposed by many) it's just not going to happen.

Kicking the sleeping monster runs a very real risk of getting the exemption scheme scrapped and ALL camping sites and rally sites would then need to be licenced and with the correct planning permission.

I also think the CC would be quite badly affected and lose a lot of members if that happened.

With planning laws being relaxed why would any change to the 5 rule be any different. Its 50 years out of date and times. The number of caravans, caravaners requirements and the CL owners have all changed in the meantime.

It perhaps would be less of an issue if we still had around 5000 CLs, as in times past, rather than the current 2500 and dwindling. It would at least solve the capacity issue if not the financial viability one.

...Its nothing to do with plannig laws it would need an amendment to the regulations covering caravan sites
