Increase size of CLs?

Why Are CLs only allowed 5 vans, is it the government, local councils? If so perhaps the Club could lobby for an increase.

Isn't it time CLs were given permission to have more than 5 vans, many do anyway unofficially!

Perhaps it could be allowed to double to 10 vans, but only if they had a certain acreage?

I wouldn't like to see them over stuffed with vans but it would help both caraanners have more choice and scope and perhaps make it more financialily viable for owners.

Lovely poetic description Smile.

The last CL I went to was a triangular scrap of land behind a farmyard, approached by a lane decorated with rusting, abandoned farm machinery, and boasting  a WC and grubby washbasin in an outhouse festooned with cobwebs. We stayed one night.

For every rubbish CL there will be many more that are fantastic.

A Google sat look down followed by a street view tells you what you need to know to avoid the odd dodgy one.

the trouble with sat views is that most are very dated. A sat view of our CS bares no resemblance to its current state and layout. Good for general area and access but not always for actual view of site itself

True, some will be dated are but the date is usually on the view somewhere and the majority wll be olny a few years old.

There are some great web sites to use these days.

You are not doing your searches right ET!Happy I have no doubt there are some ropey CLs, but it all depends on expectations as well, coupled with doing all you can to minimise any surprises when choosing a new one! I can give you some with beautiful manicured lawns, lovely landscaped areas, picnic tables, information kiosks, purpose laid out dog walks, full heated toilet/shower/laundry block, swings for children, riverside, lakeside, fishing, horse riding, tank museums, swimming pools, etc...... We have visited all kinds!Happy

Please, please, please don't go down the clinical route of measuring absolutely everything on CLs! Yes, maintain the safety requirements, but try not to destroy the naturalness and beauty of most of the little sites, that is their very appeal. Club Sites cater wonderfully for those with a straight line, mathematical fetish, even providing little colour coded sticks for those who love such details, but heaven is a little patch of grass, a few trees and shrubs, and the wonderful wildlife.Happy

I presume ttda that remark is for me? I'm not interested in being mathematically clinical, I'm just offering a thought, an idea, even a suggestion as to how larger CL sites,, as previously named 'super sites', can  accommodate a greater number of unobtrusive pitches. EV

My humble apologies EV if I gave the impression I meant you.

I am sorry, was a general comment regarding CLs, not personally intended at all.Happy

Any site intending to have more than 5 units must apply for and obtain planning permission for a commercial site. The law provides for 5 'vans only under the exemption scheme and  that is unlikely to change. Sorry for stating the obvious.

It's also clear from the posts on here, many members and CL owners are quite content with the status quo.

Yesterday had a positive response from the Club CL inspectors re. a site that had double the units it should have. Apparently they did check and the site was again oversubscribed and they are to discuss the situation with the owner. So does this mean the owner will:

(a) revert to 5 vans or

(b) go independant and we'll loose another Cl from the network?

We love Cls and don't want the latter but don't want the serenity of most Cls spoiled either!

One CL that I reported for over-occupancy and which appeared to be a serial offender last summer appeared on the closing CL list in this month's magazine.

Cyberyatch- probably used the overcrowding to make his argument for planning permission to expand. Application probably nodded through without going to full planning committee, just like round here even in a Nat Park.
