CL's pricing themselves as sites?

It's a while since I used a CL, and really I just searched for one around Alnwick as I needed a water topup, and thought a cheap CL would be the ideal place to do that. Except I can't find a single one under £15.
That's almost campsite fee. I must have missed the news, do CL's just charge what they like now and are there any other options to simply get fresh water fill?

You might need to look at it from the CL owners point of view. Even if a £15 a night CL was open and full every night of the year I have calculated the income would only be around £27000 a year. Deduct from that the costs of electricity (if provided) deduct from that the cost of emptying waste, probably not on mains sewerage, deduct from that costs of site maintenance and insurance I wonder how much of that £27000 is actually left. The reality is of course that the CL won't be full every night of the year, probably lucky if its full for half the year so the economics of running a CL is not quite the goldmine you seem to think it is? Many CL's are trying to add value by having hardstandings and serviced pitches but that means nightly fees on average are around £20 a night.

There are plenty of reasonably priced CLs around, some areas are more pricey, depends where you want to go. The Alnwick area is popular so it's not going to be as cheap as some places and CL owners have invested in improved sites. We're paying £13 for our next CL, there are still some basic £6 ones on the list.

By the way £15 isn't "almost campsite fee" at this time of the year, I wish it was. wink

Problem for CLs in tourist areas  is that the peak season is short. They can’t increase their income by taking more visitors in because they are limited to five outfits,  so they make more money by increasing their prices. Alternatively they give up the five van limitation of being a CL and make hay while the short peak season lasts.

We’ve just paid £30 for a night at a cl, we were happy to and will be going back.  We had booked a club site and then i thought do i want to go to a full site and share facilities for £30 when i can go to a cl, just 5 pitches and individual shower rooms, overlooking a lake for the same price  - what do you think???!!!  Not a difficult choice.

If you divide the £15 by all the nights you presumably have had free, then it will work out quite cheap per night

We are trying to use CLs with few facilities as we generally use our own shower etc, but do want to have EHU.   We have found several with serviced pitches for £15, and others without serviced pitches at £12-£15, which we are happy with.

Would prefer not to pay over £18.

CLs vary greatly. OH is stopping on a little beauty later this week. £8 per night. It has all he needs and wants. We very rarely spend more than £18 per night. Usually a tour of three weeks using a mix of Sites works out at an average of £12-13 per night.

If you are off to Hillhead AD, best empty the piggy bank. Most expensive Site on network I think. Never been, but supposed to be nice.

Is Hillhead even more, we are booked in there shortly but have to confess I dont know how much it is without checkingundecided

If you do spend even more of the kids inheritance by going to Hillhead  and get the bus from outside the site to Kingswear ,it is far more fun if you walk to the car ferry to cross to Dartmouth and the chippy just off the car ferry is good

If you use the Dartmouth  steam railway (lovely journey ) really good discount with your travel card , and it was woth the extra pound(3years ago)in the observation car

,Ferry from Brixham  to Torquay is good also a pod of dolphins are quite often in the Bay ,one ferry we got actually went to them for us to watch as they surfed the bow wave

The fee by hand out of chips in Paignton main road to sea from from train or bus station are a definite to try,,GD and myself had several as we walked back and forth past cool

Ps I have been thinking the Op on this thread is so used to "freeloading "is out of touch with reality or the thread is a windupundecided

We are booked in at the end of September on a served pitch and works out at £26 a night , didn’t think that was too bad for its location.
