CL's pricing themselves as sites?

Just out of interest JV, you say it’s Regional Managers visiting CLs, I was under the impression they were volunteer Site Inspectors. Or do the RM’s visit at set up? Just curious....

It is I understand part of their remit?

many elements go into a CL's 'price'....location, facilities, condition, acreage, etc....

...and agreed, this can be set at whatever level the owners like and, also agree, customers are free to stay on that basis or not.

..but i also agree thats its any customers right to comment on that price...good value, too expensive etc...

sometimes its not that easy to guage 'value' without having stayed at a particular site.

weve used 3 CLs recently....all basically very similar in offering but a 50% difference in the pricing. perhaps its this sort of variance in two successive, similar sites, that causes questions to be asked and, in some cases, eyebrows raised.

having said that, they were all great, would certainly use two again (one was in a place we wont be returning to) despite the variance in price.

And did the Club not say that the advice offered was to survey what other local CL's charge and to make a decision based on like for like facilities when deciding a price? I suppose hearing that advice the CL owner could interpret as an instruction to charge a certain amount rather than just a way of helping a CL owner arrive at a realistic price for what they are offering. I have no idea how the Club would react if a new CL with hardstandings, serviced pitches,free WiFi and toilet/shower facilities wanted to charge £5 a night compared to the guy down the road with a field and a tap and waste disposal was charging £10 a night. Would suggesting that he look at the pricing for the local CL's be tantamount to suggesting his CL was too cheap?

I think pricing can vary depending on where you are as well. As pointed out early on, lots of folks want to be close to Alnwick (and why not, lovely place) so, just to use it as an example, it might be a couple of pounds per night more to be a couple of miles from there, rather than further away. OH is paying £8 tomorrow to be up on Moors away from main tourist trails, still a lovely Site, and it has water😂

We have always thought certain places in UK charge a bit more, so if you want to go, you just accept it, or don’t go. North Wales CLs back in the early 2000’s seemed to be very expensive, so much so we booked a cottage elsewhere cheaper one time. 

I suspect this year, a few CLs might have put a pound or so on because pitches are going to be in great demand. But given the year we have all had, I wouldn’t begrudge them that, they will still have had a few if not all overheads.

Location obviously can have an effect on prices charged. We stopped at one CL near a town on the north Cornwall coast. It was a level but not flat grass area but not closely mown, only10 amp electric and chemical disposal that left a bit to be desired. There were no Covid precautions evident. This was £18.00 per night. At most there were three outfits on it in late April.

Conversely the following week we stopped at an inland Devon CL about 5 miles from the nearest town. It had individual level H/S pitches each with water and drainage and each pitch had it's own picnic table. The grass between pitches was very well mown. There was Covid hand gels at any communal touch point. This was £15.00 per night with all pitches occupied. (The owner has already published on their website that prices will go up to £18.00 next year but still cheap for what is on offer)

Next week we will be on a CL with H/S serviced pitches and 10 amp electric in the middle of Yorkshire. This is £15.00 per night. The following week we're near Whitby. This CL offers grass pitches only but with 16 amp electric at £14.00 but an extra £4.00 for an awning.

It just goes to show that prices do vary and regardless of what is offered on the CL it is the location that can influence the prices charged. 

If you look around for non EHU CL's, they can be found at realistic prices. We have recently stayed on a couple at £7 per night on grass. Having just completed a 30 day tour with a mixture of commercial, CL's and C& CC sites plus the odd car park (NB The Kelpies is £5 against the Falkirk Wheel's £15 for the same thing!). Despite a couple of the sites being, by my standards, a bit pricey but reflecting the location, we managed to get an overall night pitch rate average of £13.50.

probably and who can blame them, in todays market place when staycations are the name of the game who can blame them, make hay whilst the sun shines, for sure they will have had a pretty lean time of things over the last 12 months, personally my first priority is area, do i like the look of the site, does it offer what i want tick in the box for these and i really dont worry about the price, but i guess for those who just want to dump waste water, top up with water etc anything over £10 is excessive,

question, if you only needed to top up with water, where did you dispose of all the water you had used, and possibly your toilet cassette ???
