CL's pricing themselves as sites?

It's a while since I used a CL, and really I just searched for one around Alnwick as I needed a water topup, and thought a cheap CL would be the ideal place to do that. Except I can't find a single one under £15.
That's almost campsite fee. I must have missed the news, do CL's just charge what they like now and are there any other options to simply get fresh water fill?

Well NellietheHooker is from Cumberland and I'm sure, in fact almost certain, he has been to one or two CLs outside of Cumberland/Cumbria.  People from that area are allowed to travel outside of it.undecidedsmile

The reason, extugger and WN, that Cumberland is shown is that the club, in it's wisdom does/did not recognise Cumbria as a county. 'Tis them that are still living pre 1974. And yes we have been allowed to visit the odd CL here and there.😉wink

I am currently on a CL charging £12 p.n. electrics, internet, washing machine, plenty of elbow room and a damned good view. Apparently a club 'manager' suggested to the owner that his price was below average and ought to be increased.  That's a bit of a liberty by the club isn't it?

No wonder his customers keep coming back time after time, a quick poll of the site made me the only one who hadn't been there before.

In response to the OP's original question, we are at present on a commercial site, on H/S with EHU, our own water point and waste water drain all for £15 pn. So CLs are pricing themselves as sites in this case.

And when I queried that suggestion I was informed in no uncertain terms that the club doesn't do such a thing....as if!!!

Some of the posters have worked out calculations of site income on a basis of five vans a night for six months. We have had 44 nights on CLs so far this year and I should think not more than 5 of those nights was the site full, 10 maybe three or four of us and the rest just two.

A stop over site we used was £10 but I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer there and the others were £18.

Personally I am happy to pay £18 for so few others around me, EHU, well spaced pitches, wonderful views and short grass.

It is not usual for RMs to "advise" CL owners of pricing unless it was brought up in conversation   ,as has been posted on this and other threads CLs at times just a sideline for the owners, on one we have stopped at the OH of the Farmer said "it is nice to have people on the CL as it gives me some one to talk to ,my husband can be out for many hours with his pack up lunch"

CL owning friends have also told us the Site Inspector volunteers often have suggestions on pricing, so we are convinced it does happen. Most tend to look at what other provision is around them, or what facilities they offer, and price accordingly.

I have no problem with CLs charging whatever they want. If a price doesn’t suit us, we look elsewhere. It’s their business, within Club constraints, they run things how they wish.
