A Good Way To Increase CL Numbers?

As a CL one of the benefits of being with the CAMC is we can purchase simple and cheap Public Liability Insurance through the Club for the site, which made it so easy for us. As I understand it, that support (and their buying power) is now to be ended. I guess CLs will be left to fend for themselves with no doubt an increase in the premiums.
I hope this is not an example of how CAMC values their CL network! This may push some older CL owners to consider closing as they will be faced with spending more time searching around for insurers. I hope we don't see the network drop below 2200!

This is indeed unfortunate news.

Public Liability Insurance (PLI) is one of the annual costs that all CLs need to bear no matter what.  Failure to provide a certificate to the Club will mean the revocation of the certificate.

I have heard of at least one CL that feel this may be the straw that breaks the camels back, and are now considering whether to close their CLs.

Many CL owners (like myself) have insurance with other providers and PLI is just one aspect, so we are not affected, but by my estimates around 50% of CLs were insured via the club.

The CL Owners Group is actively looking for an alternative provider of insurance.  Whilst PLI is important, as Maddie alludes, insuring against other risks may also be of interest to CL owners.  Not least the issue of dealing with unwanted visitors (sometimes paid-up club members) who seek to set up camp and are likely to cause trouble. Getting rid of such people can be extremely costly and some insurance to cover this risk would offer peace-of-mind to vulnerable CL sites that may not have the luxury of electric gates etc.

Lets hope an insurer comes forward offering a cost-effective and 'fit-for-purpose' package.

I hope you are right, as I mentioned when I reported the OP, th art it seems like the club may well have" shot themselves in the foot" unless an real alternative is found, the ccc would I think welcome those feeling let down

How can the club have shot itself in the foot when it’s the insurer who has pulled out rather than the club dropping the insurance provision? 🤔

The club must surely have had plenty of previous knowledge in this area  , without just dropping it on the CL owners,, with it seems little noticesurprised

Hi All,

The Club has not actively decided to stop selling the public liability insurance for Certificated Locations. Unfortunately the underwriter of the public liability cover we were providing for Certificated Locations (Amlin) is pulling out of this market and therefore we are not able to continue providing the cover we have to date.

The broker that sourced the cover we had been selling, and another broker we work closely with, were both unable to find alternative public liability cover for us. It seems this is because most of this type of business is underwritten by Lloyds syndicates, and changes within Lloyds alongside the size of the scheme has meant many insurers are not interested and/or able to provide the cover now.

However, Devitt Insurance Services Limited, who provide some of our personal lines cover for members and with whom we have worked for many years, have managed to source cover. Added to this, they are able to provide other types of commercial insurance cover, such as employee liability and professional indemnity insurance, which may be needed by some CL owners and be better value purchased together. As Devitt are able to be more flexible in what they can provide, CL owners will need to contact them directly to get cover.

We will be writing to all our CL owners to advise of the changes over the next few weeks. Unfortunately we were given very little notice of the non-renewal of the scheme, hence we’ve been unable to send all the letters out in one go.

I hope this answers the questions raised. However, for any CL owners who have any specific queries, please do contact us on 01342 336706.

Thanks

Maddie

Thank you Maddie for your thoughtful response.  Let's hope that Devitt can come up with some competitive rates for CL public liability.  I look forward to hearing good news on this matter.

David

So why make your previous erroneous statement?

That was rhetorical - no answer required.

One CL who's insurance is due to renew soon has reported that the new insurer wanted 50% more than the premium they paid last year!
