Pump King

Could someone explain as to why the 'Pump King' thread has disappeared without explanation? It was put into a hidden folder, the live links were altered to delete all trace to the original site and members offers as if it never existed and all that is now on offer is a 'Right Shell' card. This is only valid on UK motorways whereas the 'Pump King' card covered any UK station with its offer.

Could the PK card with better benefits have been posted inadvertantly, and not meant for members but for HQ staff and the lesser RS card being offered just for us?

Not in hope for a reply but politeness costs nothing.

A further though occured to me.  Are the included Shell stations solely those that are on designated motorway service areas i.e. accessed through dedicated slip roads from and to the motorway?

There are many other places signed as "Services" which are located on the non-motorway road network and are accessed by leaving the motorway at a normal junction. In at least one case one has to leave at one junction and rejoin the motorway at the next junction!  So no different from visiting any other fuel station.

It's obviously been a staff perk that was wrongly advertised in the magazine. Shell have offered the RS card for members in the full knowledge that few of us fill up at services anyway so no great financial loss.

I understand this was the big announcement at the show. I'm not sure I agree that it's a big announcement - just another member offer that we can use if we choose to. I do think that if something is to be launched or announced to great fanfare then it should be as free of errors as possible.

Perhaps the marketing manager should consider whether big announcements are the way forward. They don't seem to be achieving a positive response (Facebook is interesting)

Thanks Dorset Diver, i see where you are coming from, to be quite honest the money i would save is not huge, it is the principal, CAMHC launch a full page add in the club magazine, provide a link to the Pump_King site and a CAMHC code for you to use, which i did, Pump-King take my £2 for set up costs, which is refundable once you make your first purchase of diesel, and then CAMHC pull the plug. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth

DD where did you find the link and the code? The advert in my mag. doesn’t show it.

Just because the cc don’t wish to proceed does it mean the rest of us can’t?

It seems from what I have read here Pump King will still sign us up or have I missed something else besides the code and link?

Ken, the link was posted by somebody on the original discussion which has now been pulled by the powers that be, when you clicked on the link it opened up the Pump-King sign up web site and automatically inserted the code needed which I am pretty sure was CAMHC, the powers that be will probably kill me for giving that out, then you simply put in your visa card number, car registration etc and it opened your account. Sorry i do not have the link in my web browser history

Oh well missed another one but thanks for trying. Fuel prices on motorways are a National disgrace, even with an 8p reduction. I did read sometime ago that it was being investigated as was thought to be profiteering. Don’t know where that ended up.

KoK, it went something like this-

Govt-we think you are profiteering

Fuel companys-no we're not

Govt-oh ok then

The passing of a large cheque from the fuel companys to the HMRC was witnessedcry

Has anyone worked out how this compares to the Shell Drivers Club points/rewards system which we use sometimes? Can be used anywhere not just motorway services.

The "big" announcement last February should have seen a big reshuffle and cull in marketing, for what it cost and the what it seems lack of results,so what chance any otherswink

This is the text of the email that I received from the club re this debacle:

"We understand you have recently signed up to the Pump-King fuel card.

Unfortunately, this offer is not available and the webpages should not have been accessible; this was caused by a digital indexing problem which has now been rectified.

There is no timeline for this offer at the moment.  The Caravan and Motorhome Club have the member’s best interests at heart and want to ensure all member offers are robust.

Pump-King will be refunding the £2 card charge.

We apologies for the inconvenience and confusion caused.

Kind Regards,

Laura

 This is my response:

"Laura

Thank you for letting me know.

This does not reflect positively on the caravan club or the robustness of the web site, which has been heavily criticised since the revamp many months ago.

What will Pump King do with the card details that I have provided them with?

If you have no relationship with them how can the club ensure that my details are not used fraudulently?

Thanks

Simon

I think that "digital indexing" is a euphemism for making a web page go live in error!

The deal re motorway services is much less advantageous than the fuel king one.
