Not very family friendly club

We have been members for a number of years as is our son and his family. They live in Stockton on Tees and store their van at Whitewater Park which is only a few minutes from their home. As we live in Lincolnshire we often use Whitewater for family get togethers. Whitewater is a beautiful site with friendly and helpful wardens but......

When we visit we like to pitch together so that our grandchildren can move freely between their parents unit and our own.  Sadly club rules make this a difficult exercise when the site is busy (as it usually is!) Not being allowed to book or reserve a particular pitch means that we have to try and arrange taking one van out of storage and arriving from Lincolnshire at exactly the same time. Not easy. So please please can the club look at having some arrangement whereby families who want to pitch together can be accommodated?

For many reasons, hopefully not.

PD beat me to it! If you want to be sure of pitching close together and particularly if you want to keep an eye on the children (you don't say what age they are) then have a look out for suitable CLs. Even on farm CLs the owners will often let children interact with the animals which might be another attraction. smile

If you have to use a club site it might be worth ringing the warden the day before you go to see if there are adjacent pitches available in less well used areas of the site - must be worth a try.

I agree with the many who have said before when this subject comes up that general prebooking of specific pitches is not something I'd be keen on.

Hi Ludensian,

As with all of our sites it is a first come, first serve. If pitches are pre-booked it is unfair on others if they wanted that particular pitch and was on site first.

If you arrive for 12 noon you shouldn't have a problem getting 2 side by side unless it is extremely busy and only a few have departed that particular day.

Kind Regards

Tracy

Its a difficult one this request.

While I agree with the first come rule, I certainly wouldn't want to be pitched in the middle of a family get together, bit like being in the middle of a rally, no thanks.

Cl's as mentioned are the best way or go to a private/commercial site who are usually happy to accommodate this kind of request.

I just thought it strange that the van is stored at White Water just a few minutes away from their home and they use that site for a get together. Why not go somewhere else for a few days.

If the site is only "a few minutes from their home...." why don't you call them when you are nearby, meet up  and both arrive together. A better chance of finding 2 pitches next to each other particularly if you arrive just after official arrival time.

We sometimes meet friends on a site and travel from different directions.  Either we are lucky and manage to get 2 adjacent pitches, or we're not, and pitch away from each other.  No big deal for us and it certainly wouldn't enter my head that the club should think about changing the "first come, first served" rule.  If it's that important to be next to each other, then perhaps a bit of initiative is needed, whereby a meeting point is arranged near the site, so enabling to arrive together.
