Is it a rip off?

Hi I have a rant to get off my chest

Just booked a site for 21 nights for an eye watering £540!   After I got back on my feet I was informed that Caravan and Motor home club have increased their Easter fees this week two weeks early.  Why I ask. even the management were embarrassed and thought it were shocking.

I spent 5 nights last week on a fabulous caravan and camping club site in heart of Northumberland with all the facilities and with over 60s discount £8 pn!

After only just re-joining I cannot  see the benefits of staying with  C&M club prices are beyond out reach.

Sorry K but saying:

we can no longer afford to use only Club sites.

As pensioners on a fixed income that does not even keep up with ordinary inflation, we find site price increases just too much.

We are therefor being "priced out", or whatever you like to call it, as far as we are concerned.

Just doesn't equate (the best word I could think of) to spending between £3000 to £6000 per trip each time each year, the fuel costs alone on 3000 to 4000 miles alone just does not tie in. A very high fixed income it must be.

Maybe it is a language thing for you but when people here stay these things (Pensioner, fixed income, can no longer afford) it means they cannot even dream to spend when you are.

Corners, these things are relative, I repeat, again, if someone sets themselves a budget eg sticking to a limit on pitch prices then no matter what you think their finances are you have to respect their decision. They have decided that prices have exceeded what they want to spend. Maybe you will spend whatever a club site pitch costs but if someone decides there is a limit, that's the point, they have reached their spending limit on that part of their income.

yes you keep repeating that and it is true. I am respecting his decision and have said so, did you miss that?

What is not true is that K's statement that he can not afford club sites, he obliviously can, he simple wishes to spend his money elsewhere. Look at TW's post to give you an idea.

I'm not on here to discuss people's incomes Corners, so I'll leave it that.

There's a big difference between not being able to afford a club site ,to not willing to pay that amount for a club site

what does semantics matter?

Kjell has obviously stated that club sites are 'too expensive' to give him the value he wants...not unlike the OP.

as has been said many times upthread, the club doesn't offer much with regard to facilities for the prices charged.

compared to the sites that Kjell, and many others regularly use 'elsewhere' club sites are bereft of such things like pools, bars. restaurants, cafes, sports facilities etc and these sites are available for €16-20 a night for around 80% of the season.

Its obvious that some folk see this sort of site (see Castells or Yelloh!) offering a lot more at a really affordable price.

I'm reliably informed that club sites are in the median price range so perhaps a better way of describing where the club sits re VFM might be 'CC offers basic facilities at median prices?

BB - you are making this something it's not. It's unfortunate that the discussion has centred around Kj's posts, because it's never been a personal "attack".

The point is that being "priced out" of sites is not the same as deciding that it does not fit one's personal budget. Nothing to do with semantics.

We choose not to use sites such as, say, Concierge Camping, but we don't claim that means we've been priced out! wink

As has been said several times by several folk, it all boils down to personal choice - that's a good thing surely?

but some have chosen to analyse Kjells every post over and over to the nth degree...that's not a good thing, surelyundecided

Unfortunately for those wanting such facilities (I don't) they are not similarly priced within the UK.

I'm reliably informed that club sites are in the median price range so perhaps a better way of describing where the club sits re VFM might be 'CC offers basic facilities at median prices?

The club offers what you may consider basic but is in fact of a standard with the range of facilities that many seek. A similar formula to many sites by other providers within a similar price range.
